Only had one outing in this tent that lasted one night due to floods and high winds....however the tent really buckled in on the dome area and sides in the wind ..(the bedroom area was fine) causing a pole section to split  was this just bad luck or have any of you had a similar experience?

Also have (as yet) unopened large Sun Canopy to go with it ...anyone had it that works with the 500 ( as opposed to the 600?)

Away again in October (on a more sheltered site) but which way is the best way to pitch it....bedroom to prevailing wind better?

I have an Orchy 500 and I must admit that I find that it moves a great deal in the wind, although have ahd no problems with poles splitting.

I had it guyed down tightly using delta pegs. I had pitched with the back into the prevailing wind but the wind direction and speed that weekend varied from 0mph to galeforce gusts.

I did have the large sun canopy with pitched with it and would advise that this is difficult to keep attached in wind and does cause quite a lot of stress to the dome poles. A friend eventually suggested parking my car to one side and tying the sun canopy to the car roof rails. It worked a treat and the tent became a lot more stable.

While the tent is brilliant in calm conditions it does flex quite considerably in the wind.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that..thought maybe we were doing something wrong with the pitching!!...might try the car as extra stability when we next try it out in October ( will now also break out the Sun canopy having seen your profile pic!)
