Hi, I'm looking at buying a 3 man tent for next spring summer(two trips will be in scotland so wind and rain may come) I've been looking at a khyam sherpa 3 and a vango beta 350 or omega 350. Can any one tell me if any of these are any good, or do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks

Hi I'm going to get the Aztec Hawk 3 man tent but only because you can stand up in it and it has a SIG if you are going to windy areas the lower one may be better there. Any I have looked at so far are sold out for the season but good luck anyway you will get good advice on this site. Cheers
The Coleman Celsius Duo 3 might give you a different sort of tent to look at. At 150 cms its slightly taller than the others you have named but its a good strongly made tent, helped by the two crossing poles of the front dome living area plus a further two parallel poles on the rear tunnel.

Hello freescot and welcome to UKCS. IS it actually for 3 people, or for 2?
There is not much to choose between the Khyam Sherpa and the Vango Beta in terms of build quality- both are good value for money low level tunnel tents. The Vango Omega offers the advantage over these two of having alloy poles which have much greater strength-to-weight ratio than the fibreglass poles of the other two models; that is why it costs more.
Darcydog mentions the Aztec Hawk 3 - this is a different order of tent really. The poles are steel (so the tent is heavy ay 25kg) but it offers much more space, though the stand-up height may be a disatvantage in very exposed scottish sites.
Merry's recommendation is a good compromise between these two extremes. We have Coleman tents and are extremely happy with the quality. The Celcius Duo model has great stability with the crossed over poles of the dome and durawrap poles which are reinforeced versions of ordinary fibreglass ones. The fact that the living area groundsheet zips out is a handy extra feature too, in terms of separating it from the flysheet if muddy. So, I think, if you can stretch your budget, this could be the one to go for.

We have the Vango Beta 250 which is a good sturdy tent, and you can not beat the quality of a Vango. In fact we have a further two small Vangos and are looking at the moment to replace one of them - but that is due to over use!
We purchased and used a Khyam Sherpa 3 and promptley returned it due to it leaking like a sieve!! Granted the weekend that we used it was very wet but the indoor pool in the bedroom was a little off putting.
Therefore I would say go for a Vango either the Beta or the Omega both good tents!
Hi freescot
New lightweights for 2008 the Khyam QE range,Khyam Must recon they have built a strong tent in their new QE range But they only have one 3 berth in the Range the freelander freelander cannot comment on its perfomance but been rated three seson it should be quite strong, and dome tents do tend to be more wind resitant that tunel tents, unles you pay for a geometric design.
Regards
Rex.

I was in exactly the same situation - looking for a three berth (for two people) to go to Scotland in next year - and I went for the Beta 350.
I realised I wasn't that bothered about head-height (still 150 odd cms) and the advantage is it's light to carry (just over 6kg) and stable to pitch. As Harrybob says Vango is quality and great value.
