We currently have a Montana 6 which we love. We now have a 2nd child which means we have lost some luggage space in the back of the car. Our Monty is great but quite big when it's packed up. We would really like to keep the space we currently have inside the tent but with a smaller pack size. Can anyone suggest anything else?

We have the Montana 6 and two kids aged 7 & 9 and we bought a roof box for additional space, I am thinking now we might need a trailer we ove our monty and I wouldnt change it for the world
We already have a roof box, but I'm beginning to think that a trailer might be a good move. We've been looking a tents and anything that comes close seems to be just as large when packed.
We had the same problem with tents because we needed the living area but we could not find anything like the Monty, I am now trying to get the front extension for when we go away at Easter, so we will definatley need a trailor.

The front extension is a great idea, we were going to get one but like you say it really bulks out your packing (not a problem if we get a trailer). I hope you have a fab time at Easter.
Well I'd keep my Monty we have two kids age 2 & 4 and are packed to the rafters but not succumbed to the trailer just yet, got a roofbox though. I have no idea about pack size but Ive been looking at a Vango Orchy as a smaller solo pitch tent for just me and the kids in school hols, it has a very flexible living space.

I would stick with the Monty, we bought the Outwell travel Bag the boys have half each, works great.
When buying the Monty we came very close to getting the Wynnster Phoenix 6 good price & much smaller pack size the only down side is you really need two people to put it up.
Thanks for the replies - I think you have confirmed what I was thinking. There doesn't seem to be anything that offers the size and headroom and is easy to put up and that is smaller packed. We are going to try a couple of local campsites using just the roofbox and see how we get on, then maybe get a trailer if we really struggle.
Oo-er, about to go against the flow here, because I can't think of anything worse that having a top speed of 60mph and not being to park anywhere except motorway service stations.
I'm with Clarkson here - no, 60mph isn't relaxing and it doesn't get you there quicker! Plus, with a typically under-reading speedo (up to 10% below actual speed), most are doing around a true 55mph.
Before we got a real bargain on our Vermy last year I was about to go for an Outwell Nevada L. It's a bit narrower than a Monty but a bit longer, and since you won't need the third bedroom it'll have plenty of room. being a rectangle you'll have no trouble with pitch charges.
It packs into one bag much smaller than the Monty bag, and weighs 22Kg against the Monty 40Kg. It has very good reviews - probably needs the porch pole shortening by an inch to ease stress on flysheet, but so do most Montys.
