Hi, I have just bought a Raclet canvas frame tent (2007 model I believe) and would be grateful for a couple of bits of advice. The first is on caring for the canvas; I have set it up and wet it thoroughly to check for leaks and to perform any necessary shrinkage of the canvas if this is required. Although there are no leaks and the canvas appears to repel water well, there are a couple of areas (one where a bird has done its business) that have clearly absorbed water. I would be keen to know what the best course of action for cleaning/re-proofing would be (I have searched for other posts but I have not found a difinitive answer).
The second question relates to the poles. I have assembled the tent fully (including the 'kitchen area') and I am left with 3 poles, a short black one approx 12 inches long and the other two approx 3 feet long - one of which slides indide the other and which can be set at different lengths. Any suggestion as to what these might be for would be welcomed (they are not the poles that form the kitchen area).
Thanks

Hi, for the bird poo you can just brush this offf if any left. Now you can get some specialist tent cleaner(Grangers tent clean) or PURE soap flakes, other stuff will wash off the proofing.I would sponge clean the area as the rest of the tent sounds fine. When this parch is dry you can re proof this bit.A can of Fabsil would do it .The only thing is now you may have a noticeable spot where you have done it.
The slide into bar??Has it got flat ends with holes in ?Like it should fit on top of poles with spikes on top??
Hi Chris,I dont know about the short pole but it sounds like the other is a storm shock,a universal pole that you can use to give added strenth to tent on high winds..
Thanks for the replies. I shall get some cleaner and re-proofer to take care of it. With regard to the two 3' poles, one is brass coloured and the same diameter all the way along (similar to a wardrobe clothers rail). This slides into the grey pole where it can be screwed into place to adjust the total length. The end of the grey pole, that this doesn't slide into, has a narower section about 2 inches long as though it should fit into a 'holer' on the frame but I cannot see a spare one.
I can't see where they would fit on the kitcken. For the kitchen, I set up two poles at the sides with a spike on top to go through the canvas. An additional bar that has flat ends with holes appears to go over the top of these two and then this is held away from the tent by a short pole that clips over this at one end and the frame at the other.
Maybe when we go away in it the function will become clear when we spot somehting that doesn't appear to be working as well as it could!
