Hi, wondered whether anyone had any tent buying tips.  After some rooting around, we have decided on (in no particular order) one of the three following models:

  • Jamet Pacific 4 Family Dome
  • Royal Memphis 4
  • SunnCamp Kashmir

We (i.e. the two of us) wanted a larger tent than our well-used, cosy, two-person dome.  The above seem to meet our various criteria.  However, wondered whether anyone could point us in the direction of one manufacturer, or another, based on personal experience?  Even better if somone was able to comment favourably or otherwise on the specific models we are interested in.

I await your replies.  Many thanks.

Hi - Welcome to the UKCS

I have a Royal tent and its a very good tent which has stood up to some pretty bad weather. Never had a problem with it. We did have to download the instructions from their website as they didn't come with the tent but that is about it.

Sorry I don't have any experience of the other makes but I know Sunncamp gets quite good reviews. Not heard of the other make.

Good luck

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far.  Still wondering whether anybody might know about these specific models, perhaps?  They are basically four-person tents (i.e. plenty of room for two and our bags) consisting a sleeping area, and a separate living area, it is possible to stand up in.  Jamet is a well-respected French make apparently.  I think of these three tents, only one (SunnCamp Kashmir) has one (favourable) review in the tent review section. Here's hoping....17

I had a jamet vis a vis tent about 10 years ago

Never had any trouble with it. apart from the pole ripped the polyester sleeve a bit when threading it thru once

It never really experienced any really bad weather conditions, so can't comment on how good it would be in adverse weather

I currently have a Royal tent, and have previously had a Royal dayroom and Royal DriveAway awning.

Would definatley consider Royal to be an excellent make. Better than Sunncamp, and I only know of Jamet, because a friend had a trailer tent made by them!

Ta folks!! Have now bought an Outwell Nevada 3 from Go Outdoors in a fetching shade of blue for only £93.99 (including their discount card priced at £4 for 12 mths).  So what made the difference I hear you cry? Well I'll tell you:  Nobody within 'spitting distance' of Birmingham stocked the tents we were originally interested in - being able to 'try before you buy' is so much better.  Secondly, I came round to the idea that an integral groundsheet could work.  No footprints available though.  A trip to the builders merchant beckons.  I'll put on a tent review when I've tried it. So long. 17
