We have just bought a 600DL. We found it easy enough to put up given its size but, as the poles do not go into the corners, trimming the tent was difficult as one can not move the poles in and out in order to create a shape at the corners that makes the tent taught along its sides. We ended up with the skirt not being a consistent distance from the floor on all sides (and this was not due to the ground)

Can anyone who has an evolution give me any tips on how to trim the tent's final appearance effectively / ensure that when you put it up it goes up so that it sits evenly?

Thanks for any advice

Steve

hello leisuresuitlary! (i love those games btw!)

we have an evo 400, i know it's a lot smaller but we had a similar problem the first time we pitched outdoors. it just didn't look right and the SIG wouldn't lay flat.

have you tried tightening the tension straps that are attached to the ring-and-pin system?
they're supposed to be loose when pitching to make it easier to get the poles on the pins but they need tightening to flatten the tent out.

we also pegged out the corners pre-pitching and re-pegged them after if needed (it was a little windy at the time) if this helps?
oh, and after popping the tent up (if you need to get in to lift it like i do with mine) zip the doors up fully before re-pegging/pegging the rings and before guying out.

hope i've been of some help, Jelly.

Hooray, at last a response.

All good suggestions, and it's good to know I am not alone. Will give those a go next time, hopefully that will make the difference.

Hi

We've got a 600DL, and initially suffered from the same problem. (Other tents suffer from it too, so it's not just the Evolutions.)  After much head scratching, we came up with this....

The side to side poles MUST be dead centre on the flysheet before applying the tension. I.e, they must be sticking out from the sleeve an equal length on both sides.

Similarly, for the fore and aft poles, make sure that you have the front (sharp) end of the flysheet as close to the end of the poles as possible before applying the tension.  No matter how much you haul and tug and swear at the thing once the poles are tensioned, you cannot shift the flysheet enough to flatten the groundsheet to make it neat.

Having said all that, unless it's really bad, it doesn't seem to matter too much, once you have dumped all the crates and buckets and other debris inside.

Z
