I am looking for a family tent with a large living area, but have become so confused and bogged down with the different types and makes. Can any one point me in the right direction? Ideally I want a 6 berth and have a budget of £300 ish???? Thanks

we have had exactly the same problem, but think we have cracked it, in our opinion the tents which have the bedrooms running along the back with a living space in the middle and then a seperate built in sun porch seem to give you the best space and value for money. We are opting for the Kampa Lulworth 6 berth tent rrp £299,you may have to search the internet for tents that are in stock as they seem to be popular. The other tents we have looked at are the Vango Amazon, and Khyam Montreal all aroung the £300. Our local camp shop had both the above the Amazon was lush but slightly too expensive and i didnt like the sun porch, the montreal £340 was lovely but in terms of value for money the Kampa Lulworth seemed better. We are going today to view the Kampa and buy. I really hopes this helps ive researched tents and equipment for weeks on end now and just want to buy the tent and go !!!

Thank you so much, I have just looked at the Kampa Lulworth and it looks fantastic. Let me know when you have viewed it, I would be interested on your thoughts.
Thanks again and happy camping

Hi have just spent the day trooping around tent showrooms, and am more confused then ever. We thought we had narrowed our search to the Kampa Lulworth but, we found that the back bedroom which could be split into a double and quad was very snug for even a family of four, my kids are only 7 and 4 and they would be fine in the double section however for myself and my husband who is 6ft 3 we struggled to fit two camp beds in without his head or feet poking through the back of the tent. The living and porch area were lovely and roomy. We have since ruled this tent out for the pure fact that as the kids get older we will struggle to get in the sleeping quarters. We have now decided to spend a bit more money on either a Vango Amazon 800 or Gelert Corus 6+2. I hope this helps. If you have any adivce on any other tents please let me know
Just to complicate things further... have you looked at the Gelert Horizon 8? We've just picked one up from DW Camping on the A259 between Chichester and Bognor...a LOT of tent for the money (£219).
We looked long and hard for a well-reviewed Family Tunnel tent offering three bedrooms and great flexibility / 3 doors / porch options and not stupid money...
we are a family of 6 and have just returned from 2wks in france in our amazon 600, it had plenty of room (was a bit worried with so many people saying to get bigger ) and can't wait to go away in it again in a few weeks !
We have one of these and love it. spacious, pretty easy to put up becuase of the Rapidex system, and they are very sturdy in bad weather becuase of the rigid poles.
A couple of pointers re the tent which might not be clear. The photo show the chap sitting in the porch - the plan show the porch with a bedroom in. THe living area is so big, that we just use the bedroom inner inside the porch for sleeping 4. The other bedroom pod(s) - this comes with one which will sleep 3 easily enough zip onto to one of the other sides of the tent.
A couple of possible disadvantages.
It's reltivley bulky for it's size, esp with added bedroom pods - I think becuase of the 'extra poles' supporting the bedroom pods, no Sewn in groundsheet, whiuch may or may not be an issue. We aren't really bothered about it, except that it does make pitching time a bit longer compared to SIG if you do all the pegging down of it and the mudwall.
The pod 'panels' don't ahve any inner mesh doors - though it does come with a zip in mesh panel by the sound of it. We are planning on adding a mes panel to ours this year if we can. However, the porch door does have it, and the porch bedroom inner has doors both sides (with mesh of course), so you open it all up and have a really well ventilated bedroom.
You can open the side panels right up as well so that the main area has loads of ventilation
We're a family of 4 & this tent gives us 3 bedroom's, a kitchen area, we use the wardrobe as the toilet & the rail as the toilet roll holder lol, the living area (with the carpet down) is perfect for rainy days especially if you have young children wanting to play games / do jigsaws etc.
We ended up buying the XL and we haven't had trouble getting onto any sites as yet. There's loads of windows & 3 entrances. Easy to put up with 2 of you and has option of additional exxtra's like extension, carpet, kids room etc.
The good thing with this tent is that you have prett much full height head room throughout. Lounge / living area has fully sewn in groundsheet & out living area has beth tub ground sheet so best of both worlds IMHO.
Indeed, the Vermont XLs are lovely tents - but at £629 are possibly a little over the OP's advised budget (£300'ish)...the Outwells do appear to command a 'brand premium'...

How about Gelert Beyond Corvus 6+2 if you shop around approx £310 our kids are really taken with this and it has a seperate bedroom which you take up and down when needed in the living space. We are very tempted with this one although if you want a sun canopy this is extra try Awnings Direct they seem to be the cheapest.
