I've been a 'camper' for many years. Caravans and now tents. My main passion being hill walking...
I read many reviews on this site, and am bemused by some... "It's basic but what do you need/expect?"
One reviewer even stated that showers were not required since there was a 'beck' running along the site. I say this is a step too far. Maybe they only visit in summer? Maybe hygene doesn't matter. This site charges £15 a night with NO hot water. What do I need expect? Toilets and some means of washing. Hygene. Expect? My monies worth. Charge me £2.50 and I'll cope without most things. Charge me full wack and cold water is just taking the Mick. I don't think hot water is a luxury, this is 2009 and anyone taking my real money should give me a real service.
Thoughts?

15 pounds a night with no hot water? I would have 2 words for them and the 2nd word is "off" lol
Do people really pay that much just to pitch? We sure wouldnt and if others do then more fool them.
There are lots of overpriced sites both with and without amenities/entertainment etc and people do seem to pay the prices but if they didnt then the sites would have to decrease their inflated charges to a more realistic level or go broke.
Overpricing doesnt surprise me anymore but without hot water, well this one has surprised me.
I expect loos and hot showers, with decent water pressure and somewhere to keep my clothes/towel dry while I wash. I expect these to be in adequate numbers for the number of pitches on the site and I expect them to be kept clean. It's also nice if loo paper and hand soap are provided, but I can bring my own if necessary so they're not essential. I'd also like a mirror in the ladies!
Covered washing up facilities and a freely accessible ice block freezer are bordering on essential but I can cope without them. Anything else, such as a fridge for campers to use, is nice but unessential as well.
The site does have something.. like most others in the same area. An awful lot of absolutely spectacular scenery. But that was provided free of charge.
Other sites within 6 miles provide fantastic facilities for £7 ish pppn. This particular 'valley' has 3 or more very basic almost 'rough' sites all at high price.
I only want value for money. I also like some comfort. Happy to pay for that. Recent radio show 'Bottomline' stated that "People don't want the earth, just don't want to feel ripped off". Some sites make me feel ripped off. We all have it in our power to change their thinking. Simply do not pay top price for poor service.
I stayed in an idyllic site just outside Ambleside. Two toilets and an old outdoor sink for drinking water... £3 per night. - Stayed three nights - it was lovely!!
I wasn't too smelly (according to my wife) but was glad to get home & shower!

For £15 per night I would expect decent toilets/showers and washing up area at a bare minimum. Anything less than that and I'm afraid I would be visiting that particular site.
In actual fact £15-£20 per night is the most I will pay for any site. My requirements for a site are decent toilets/showers/washing up facilities. I dont do all singing all dancing sites. I wont pay extra for my dogs either but thats another topic!
