I just got back from an evening away 'test camping' our new family tent - the Hypercamp Sahara 400 from Obelink. For £190 including delivery it seems like a bargain. Good service - Ordered on Monday, received on Friday (all the way from Holland), and camping on Saturday.
The instructions warned (and I had heard before) that canvas can leak along the seams the first time it gets wet so I took the tent down to Manor Court Farm in Kent to test run it as we go away as a family in 2 weeks. The weather provided me with good conditions to prime the tent - light drizzle in the evening whilst I was setting up - nothing too bad, then a deluge several times at night. I was waiting for the seams to leak but not a drop came through all night.
Manor Court Farm is a lovely spot, by the way, only an hour from South London but feels very rural. The lady that runs it is very friendly and you can buy logs for the fire there. I had a very peaceful evening tending the tent, reading, drinking wine, a spot of quiet guitar picking, and sitting by the fire. Highly recommended although the road is a bit noisy.
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
Looks good, both tent and site. The only issue I have with bell tents is the lack of porch area. Is that an obelink tarp i see in the background and have you connected it up to the tent ? Any pics ?
The tarp is actually a Quecha one from Decathlon which I used last summer and it's great.
Yes, when we go for the family holiday I going to rig it up as an open porch with the table and chairs underneath to give us an outside area.
The nicest thing about the bell-tent is the airy, spacious feel inside. Although you obviously can't stand all the way to the sides, the centre is 10 feet high. Plus many others have commented on the pleasant quality of light.
On the other hand it does feel a bit rustic without a SIG, but no water got in.
cheers
[Will take photos with the tarp setup on holiday. Would like the canvas Obelink tarp but can't afford it at the moment]
