Help any advice greatly received from a newbie to this forum and camping!

After great lengths of internet searching and visiting a couple of dealers, we have finally decided on either the Khyam Montreal or Kampa Lulworth 6 (we love the openess of the tunnel tent type).

Having seen the Lulworth we are extremely impressed by the quality of Kampa, but would really prefer to have 3 bedrooms, hence looking at the Montreal.  As we have not seen the Montreal in the flesh, we are not to sure which way to go??  Have contacted several dealers, none have the Montreal available to view.

Would appreciate any views from any owners of the above tents.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum !!

If I was looking for a good compromise, how about the Vango Amazon 600, which is similar to the Lulworth , but has three bedrooms .

Hi

What about the Khyam Cleveland, again like the Lulworth but three bedrooms.

Thanks Gold Member and numbersix for your advice.

We have looked at both of these ones prior to putting on our question, but what swayed us with the Montreal and Lulworth was the full sided canopy!  Not that we are fussy, just thinking about our typical English weather!!!

Thanks again

Just a small heads up on the Lulworth.

There have been some issues with the manufacture, especially around leaking seams between the groundsheet and main tent.

We were buying one, but opted instead for an Outwell after talking to our retailer.  He had 3 returned within one week!

It's a great shame as it looks a fantastic tent for the price.  Hopefully Kampa will sort out the issue.

We have the Cleveland, agree full-sided canopy would be even better but it's great tent, and once we put a windbreak around the canopy it does the job just as well. The advantage of the Cleveland over the Montreal (and thats's why we chose the former) is it has metal poles, got fed up of fibre-glass poles splitting in strong winds.

Just a thought.

After another visit looking at tents we finally cracked and had to make a decision and went for a Vango amazon 800 (yes i know we didnt originally ask about this tent!)

But, now after reading about the potential problems with pitch size we're concerned it might be a bit too big. More researched required I think before the tent is dispatched tomorrow.

Wow that is a big tent! How many in your family? Ours feels big enough and it's only 4m wide and 6m long (inc canopy).

Only 4 with 2 children ages 8 and 11 so we thought we'd need the extra space. Looking around they're seems to be plenty of sites that will allow the bigger pitches, just can't assume they'll all be ok. (assumption being the mother of all cock ups etc)

Because the Amazon is a rectangular footprint of approx 6x4m ,it should be fine for all but the meanest pitchsize.
Its the multipod domes that are the problem tents in this respect .

I think thats the amazon 600, the 800 is 7.5M X 5.5M. Just visited Sandringham CCC camp site and thay say their max pitch size is 8M X 5M (Peak season). Not so sure now, thinking of exchanging for the 600.

Sorry , it was the 600 !! Look for sites that don't penalise size , I think they are often the best for campers.

We have settled for the Vango Amazon 600, after so much deliberating.  Seem to spend more time looking at tents than we have for a car!!!!  Still cant wait to go, even had a drive round a CCC site today in anticipation!

Thanks for your advice!
