We're due to be using our Horizon 6 next weekend for the first time, we've pitched it in the garden with no problems but I'm a bit confused as to how to use the two poles that create a little canopy out of the door. I know the two spiky bits on top of the poles go in the eyelets but how do you then secure the poles? Everytime I've tried they just fall over, I realise this is basic stuff but any pointers would be much appreciated.

Hi Dr Cheese01

Ok unless there are 2 bunched up guy lines on the door that you are pegging out then you need to pop off to your nearest store and ideally get a pair of ready made guy lines, about 3 to 4 mtrs long. When you get home tie a loop in the single cord end of the guy line pop the pole back through the eyelet slide the guy line over the pin on the end of the pole and peg the guy line out so holding the pole in place, do the same the other side and bobs your uncle.

Good luck

Gary

Welcome to the forum. First post.

There should either spare guy ropes with the poles, or some attached to the eyelets or you need to get some. Then peg out.

Good luck.

Cheers, I must admit I didn't notice any spare guy lines but that's not to say they aren't there, if not I'll just nip out and get some.

Hi, I've got the Horizon 6 too, only been away for a test run so I know exactly what you mean. I think there were a couple of extra guys for it in the little bag that came with the tent, but I might be mistaken. We haven't put our porch up yet either and I agree it looks a right pain. I couldn't find a good pic of it to check but saw something similar on a khyam or kalahari or something (something that was basically same sort of tent)and they angled the poles outwards with feet nearer tent and then attatched guys at the front. Haven't tried it so don't know how it will work. Surely it would have been better to put a large spike on the bottom though!

"Surely it would have been better to put a large spike on the bottom though!"

Guyed out they're held down on the grass pretty firmly. Pic in my profile shows our Orchy with the front door poled and guyed to make a canopy. The pole set from Vango included guylines and a couple of plastic cowls to push down over the pole top.
