As a novice i knew nothing and bought a gelert lakesbury 5 tent.Easy to put up,nice space for our needs but as my husband just said is it the in the tenting world what hi tech was to trainers?.We,ve only been away twice but my husband said hes noticed a splinter on one of the poles which is abit bad.We paid £200 which is,nt the most expensive but then also not the cheapest tent in the world either. What are the top, middle and bottom brands?

With reference to polyester tents, it is not easy to rate in terms of top , middle, etc, as most manufacturers produce tents to certain price points, or have a budget brand within them such as Lichfield for Vango. Price and quality do not necessarily equate ( ask bear lake owners this year ). The top segment is probably Outwell, Vango,Kampa,Coleman,Khyam and Sunncamp maybe Gelert. The middle ground are sub brands, Wynnster, Hi-Gear, Lichfield,Quechua , Easycamp. Brands like Rage or Siberian Red are bottom ( clue is not available in many places ).It is not a complete list , but gives you an idea of some form of hierarchy, which is a debating point here .
Keely dare i say i don,t like cabanons i like outwells but have noticed people on here have had issues with them.I like kampa esp the holkham 6.I do notice on the outwells etc the poles look alot better quality

lots of caveates obviously, and even the goodies get it wrong sometimes (eg Outwell zips on some models recently)
if you have a fault (like a split pole) then any decent supplier will sort it. Not necc a manufacturers fault as it sounds like potential transit damage
Not sure who the top middle bottom list of suppliers would be mind . . .
I totally agree with what Keely has said and would add ESVO to that list.
These are all top quality canvas tents, and not to be confused with polyester ones.
The canvas tent seems to be much in demand on these forums, most seasoned campers know there is no substitute for quality.
Getting back to the lighter weight polyester ones.
The better names imo are..Outwell,Khyam,Vango,and Coleman.
The Kampa brand is new for this season, and having seen them myself would say they are good, but quite up to Outwell standards, this applies to their polyester and polycotton range.
