Hi

After just about surviving 2 weeks camping on the west coast of Ireland in our Hartford XL, we've decided to change accommodation for next year! The tent has been OK- 6 holidays,but we've had many broken poles, the main ones are now seriously bent and its starting to leak in various places. To be honest the best thing about our current set up was the additional canopy, which gave us enough space to cook and sit in. We have two small children, love cooking ourselves and have so far managed to stay electricity free- we quite like the more rustic campsites!

Our preferences would be:
- something that is strong (very strong!) and wind/water proof;
- is quick to pitch (the Hartford just took ages);
- preferably 3 sleeping areas- therefore 6-8 birth;
- we think canvas rather than poly; and
- has space to cook- whether internal or via an additional canopy.

We would really appreciate any views or advice, even if the conclusion is- get a caravan!

New! Please upload a photo of your tent to the Tent Showcase!

With that criteria the only style you should be looking at is a canvas frame tent 6-8 berth IMHO

Solid as a rock when pitched

Pitched and pegged in 1/2 hour with a little practice

3 sleeping areas in many of them

They have dedicated indoor cooking areas

Canvas will last for many years

That's all your boxes ticked, brand new look at anything from £400 - £750 but there are many great  second hand bargains in good condition

Look out for cabanon, Relum, Marachel for best examples among others
