We have a large tunnel tent but I'd love to get a smaller one for odd weekends away. Mostly there would be the 4 of us (me, hubby and 2 kids) but I'd sometimes take the children on my own if hubby can't get away - so a tent that I could put up myself would be ideal.
Been looking on Go Outdoors and have seen a few dome tents, rangint from £69 to £150+, hydrostatic head of 2000 to 3000.
Any recommendations?

The Vango Venture 500 that Go Outdoors are currently selling for £69 I think is a pretty good tent and quite a bargain at that price.
We've had one, though pensioned off now. Easy enough to pitch solo and enough space for 4, though maybe a bit on the small side if you try to spend a long time holed up in it in bad weather.
We've had ours out in some pretty windy and wet weather and it stood up fine.
Have you thought about a baby frame tent (4 berth?) relum or raclet??
We have one (see profile pics) and it is really useful as it will fit in the car with all the gubbins for a short weekend away and I can put this up on my own really easily.
Ive put a short video of ours and set up on you tube under my username mumshadenough.
I agree sometimes the idea of putting up a tunnel tent for a couple of nights is just too much!!
Alternaatively if you can get hold of one, how about this....pop up 4 berth
Also recommend the Vango ... we bought one last year when it was called the Tamor, which is just the Venture renamed. The children like to help with it, so they can just hold the occasional pole if it gets windy. Plenty of headroom and good living space if you need to eat indoors when (not if!) it rains!

Hi - we have just been through the same exercise for the same reasons. Spent an afternoon at the nearest Go Outdoors umming and ah-ing over the various weekend tents which would sleep 4.
Eventually went for the Hi Gear Gobi 4 rather than the Vango Venture or Hi Gear Icarus. It seemed a step up in quality and a more stable structure. Have just had 4 days away in it and was not disappointed. The quality is excellent for £99 (I would say on a par with my Outwell) and it even came with a footprint groundsheet to go under the sleeping area and living area bath tub ground sheet which was an unexpected bonus. The HH is 3000 and the structure is very solid - we were pitched on a very slopiing field and our Gobi structure coped with the slope by far the best of the tents there with no sagging. The sleeping area is a good size for a 4 berth - we used a double Coleman Comfort airbed for us and small single airbeds for the kids and it all fitted. The living / porch area is a good size and height, has an excellent bathtub groundsheet and 3 useful doors.
Only downside was that the design uses 2 very long fibreglass poles which are not so easy to fit and raise the tent with. It took us quite a while but hopefully we have learned a few lessons and it will be quic ker and easier to pitch next time.

We went for the High Gear 5 man tent at £69 (reduced from £150). Hubby and I pitched it yesterday and were pleasantly surprised at how roomy it is inside. Hopefully we'll get some odd nights or weekends away.
