Does anyone have any video links or advice on pitching a NL? I can pitch a Vermont L in most weathers and I'm not expecting to struggle with the NL, I'm just trying to get a headstart really.

While I'm here asking... Do folks usually pitch with the ZIG attached or detached? I can imagine it's best to pitch with the ZIG attached to make certain the tent doesn't splay out too wide to subsequently get the ZIG attached?

This probably belongs in the NL carpet thread: It looks like I can use a Vermont L footprint if I make a small fold along the length to make it narrower. Likewise, I will begin by using a Vermont L carpet with a fold along the length to make it fit. I prefer the 2009/2010 Vermont carpet colour/pattern and I'm considering modifying one permanently for the NL including a slit for the 3rd bedroom pod which we'll rarely use! Does anyone have any experience of doing this?

If you have a look under the video of the tent revolving there is a link to the pitching instructions , the pitching video isn't there any more but the instructions are.

The Trout Lake video is still on the Outwell website, and it's the same method. They don't show the poles going along the side of the tent but I'm sure you'll suss that out.

We have pitched both and the main difference is the poles on the Vermont go top in first, then attach the legs whereas the NL are all in one so there is a knack of getting the right angle of approach! Also there is one colour coded pole that goes in the back (or could be the front...can't quite remember) but the rest along the tunnel are the same size. The colour code on the poles match the edge of the sleeve it goes in.
Also the zig is better attached after tent is up. The tension straps will stop the tent splaying out at the bottom. Trying to move the whole thing with the zig attached is REALLY heavy.
Should be easy to cut the carpet but to be honest probably not worth it, if you have a bed down in the extra room it will keep the bedroom from moving. And I find if we hook the bedroom out the kids will trip over it. One tip though if you only use the bedroom for storage, if you hook the front of the bedroom on the hooks back one (together with the ones you are supposed to use) it stays up well, you can still close the door, the room is still fairly big but your living area seems so much bigger. Apologies if that made no sense!!
Hope this helped.
Emma

:PembPitcher:
Thanks for the link. A few reads through that and I get how Outwell recommend pitching.

:issym:
Thanks for the pointer. I can see the similarity between the Trout Lake and the NL and that video was quite helpful.

:Emma:
Thanks for the detailed reply. I didn't realise it has tension straps going across, that makes a lot of sense.
The tent arrived yesterday and after feeling the weight of the two bags there's no way I want to try and pitch this with the ZIG attached!
That's a nice tip about the 3rd bedroom, thanks! We'll only ever be using it for storage/portaloo so that will work out great for us. As you say, saves cutting the carpet too!

With the Vermont L, we usually pitch by pegging the bedroom end down and then working forwards segment by segment, inserting poles and raising the tent as we work towards the front. The recommended method of inserting all the poles and lifting the whole lot up at once was too heavy for OH and also put a lot of strain on the fabric.
Can the NL be pitched segment by segment, or is that impossible because the poles are in "one piece"?

I have done it segment by segment just as you described above , my boy and I did it in the garden last year him on one side me on the other, we did put all the poles in first though and then just pulled each section up at a time and pegged it down.

I'm with pembpitcher. We set up and peg by segment. Works best and no stress on the fabric when trying to lift.
Enjoy your brilliant tent!!!

Well we FINALLY pitched the Norfolk Lake in the garden, did it section by section as recommended. Got it pitched, ZIG in and partially pegged out in 40 minutes.

I knew it was big, but the head height is fantastic, OH is 6`4" and he`s liking it lots.

We`ll be using it with the third bedroom as my two are an unsociable pair when it comes to each other.

I`m really pleased with it, and its in fantastic condition

You seem like a nice chap so here's a pitching video for you http://www.vzaar.com/videos/21610.swf - probably best viewed from the website containing the image so it appears resized and somewhat less grainy: http://www.tents4less.co.uk/outwell-norfolk-lake-2009.html?source=googlepsOn another note, for anyone sitting on the fence regarding buying the last of the 2009 NL stock, I bought mine from Outdoor Action Ltd (expired link) - they had (I believe) two in stock and I took one a few weeks ago and they now appear sold out. Tents 4 Less (link) now appear in Google with them but for £50 more. There can't be many left now!

That is actually a pitching video of the smaller sister tent of the Norfolk Lake the Arrow lake as the porch area is a lot smaller than the Norfolk  , but it does the trick
