Try your home insurance, but if you're storing it in a shed or garage, check the total amount you are covered for in such buildings. We moved our camping gear into the house to ensure it is properly covered. It is covered on the away from home provisions too.

Got mine through the C&CC, about £50 for Tent/Kitchen Tent and kit, and on a seperate policy £50 for trailer, most are covers seem to be New for Old, which is OK if you have bought new kit at discount prices, that way should the worst happen, you may recover the best part of what you paid out, fact is camping kit is cheap as chips, so only worth insuring top end kit IMHO. I did look at adding to my home cover but the detail was flaky to say the least, the C&CC cover seemed more fit for purpose, I view all insurance as a rip-of, but if you can afford it, then a little peace of mind can be worth it.

just had a look at the e&l site to see what a quote would come out as

Tried to do £700 for the tent and £800 for the equipment

and you get this message

The total sum insured amount of your additional items cannot be more than 25% of the tent/trailer tent/folding caravan sum insured.
Tent/trailer tent/folding caravan insured value: £700
Items sum insured: £800 (114.29%).

So you can't insure the extras for more than £175 on a £700 tent.  how stupid!  Take into account, lights, bedding, carpets, cooking equipment etc etc

Hi Val.

I had to laugh when I phoned "towergate bakers" insurance for a qoute, having seen thier full page add in the Camping Magazine!, the add showed what I thought was a picture of a Tent, along with pictures of Static, MotorHome and a Caravan, how stupid of me, that picture was not of a tent, it was a Trailer Tent, they told me they don't insure tents or trailers for that matter, the add is in the April 2010 edition page 48, can anyone else tell me that picture is not a Tent?.
