Hi i wonder if you can help me, I intend to get my brother inlaw a tent for a wedding present as he came camping with us recently and loved it.
I did look at getting him the tent packs from B&Q/ Argos for £100 all in but figured the tent would be crap + he already has sleeping bags.
I'm looking at getting a 3 or 4 berth tent with sewn in ground sheet with a bit of a porch / living area on the front, the tents i've looked at (on line) are as follows
suncamp evolution 3 berth
suncamp cairn 400dl
gellert atlantis 3 berth
vango beta 450
vango icarus 300
Which of these is best or am i barking up the wrong tree ???? can anybody advise something better ???
Thanks in advance
Bessie

Difficult one this. A tent is a very personal choice, what one person sees as their ideal design , another one might really dislike.
If someone presented me with a tent as a gift , and it wasn't what I would have chosen for myself, I wouldnt have the heart to tell them that i didn't like it or take it back for an exchange .
for example, the tents you have named are quite small, maybe he would fancy a great big tent with loads of space (many people do have huge tents just for a couple ) So perhaps pay the £100 towards that if thats what he would prefer.
I wouldnt buy a tent for someone without consulting them first.
Maybe gift vouchers for his local camping shop, (if there is a good one nearby) so he can choose his own ?
For the sake of another £30 could you get the Vango Icarus 500, a stand up height tent that is very popular this year. All of those tents you mention are too small to stand up in, and just not as practical.
I wish someone had bought me a tent as a wedding present! Even if it's not his ideal tent, it's a good starting point and will serve him well until his potential future family outgrows it, and even then it's good for a couple tent.
I'd agree with the voucher suggestion. Find a company with affordable prices and get the voucher from there or even add a decorative IOU (with tent pictures) in a wedding card. Let them choose - its a very personal thing. They'll also get the pleasure of shopping for it and may add to the value themselves. They could always ask your advice...
As we already had two homes to merge when we got married (and all the clobber that usually goes on wedding lists) - we suggested that if people wanted to get us anything, to get garden vouchers. All the much appreciated contributions went to hard landscaping our garden (pond, waterfall, stream and accessories). A wonderful wedding present that still brings daily joy 5 years on, the more so as it was our choice combined with our hard work to install it.

Last year I picked up a Vango Colarado500, Its 5 berth with a great size living area able to take my 6'4" height in the centre. I got it for under £90 in a sale from in Betws y Coed. High highly recommend it if you can get hold of one at that price.
I think the tent will be better than vouchers as my brother in law aint got a clue about them and would buy wrong thats why i'm doing the research to make sure what he gets is perfect

I've got a Vango Beta 450, and its great. Very easy to put up. Not quite standing height and the porch groundsheet isnt sewn in, but its not too heavy to carry. The porch is huge.
Have just upgraded to an Outwell Carolina S which I'm taking out this weekend for the first time. Tested it out in our local park and it was easy to put up, but managed to pinch my finger nastily in the clips - gloves recommended. Its a very solid looking tent, smaller than the Vango but standing height. Normally about £180 but got this for £100 on Ebay, as-new.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
