Thanks for the info, I have a feeling that it would still handle the wind fine, but might see if the unused guys can be attached to the Base Seconds in some way..... camping in Cornwall has made me hyper cautious over the years!
You wont regret the carpet, be aware that it is just slightly too large for the Base Seconds though, 5cm in each direction. Not a problem in any way, but thought I would mention it. If it touching the sides of the Base Seconds caused damp, i'll just tuck it under a little. Perfect fit for the 4.2 though.

Planned for next year, hopefully!
Summer Solstice wild camp.
Chilled in a Field, July.
Crantock, August. Fouth year with the fantastic Quechua Base Seconds 4.2!
..... and the odd night wild camping in my Argos 1 man tent...

You really dont need to worry about attaching them together. They fit really snugly and when I used mine together in May/June in France we had one wet and windy night. Ok not a storm but enough rain to make me worry.
There was not a drop ..completely bone dry between the 2 tents. After that we didn't bother to zip up the door of the 4.2 and the door of the Base seconds that were together just the door of the Base Seconds that opened on the elements.
The guy in decathalon recommend to me that you put the base seconds canopy on top of the 4.1 or 4.2 canopy so it forms a better seal as the tents are slightly higher IYSWIM.
Just thought I would pass that on.
I am going to try the vango porch for now cos I have emptied my piggy bank.

That is what I did - it's the most logical given that we always pitched the 4.2 first and then added the base seconds.
