Just bought a Hi Gear Caplan 5 from Go Outdoors, only tried it in the garden yet, looks great, can't wait to try it out on our first camping trip! I think we will need a sun canopy, but Go Outdoors do not make one for this tent yet (if at all). The canopy for the Vango Icarus 500 looks like it maybe OK. Can anyone help please, any advice would be appreciated.

I've just posted a reply to a previous thread as I read this! we've also got the Caplan 5 and have just come back today - we were recommended a Vango Large sun canopy which were on sale on ebay. They do not fit as well as one that is designed for the tent but we found it a real boom. We decided to pitch on the side rather than on the front - hubby thought this was a better idea and after pitching I agree.
We used the space for our 'Kitchen' and as we have dogs it was great for the extra room the canopy gave us - we added a stripy windbreak from Go Outdoors at the end to enclose the space but maintain the airflow. At the front we placed our three chairs - again to block off the space for the dogs (too hot for them to sit outside in the sun all the time!)
The canopys are still for sale on ebay - search for below:
'Vango Sun Canopy Large, Black/Mercury - BRAND NEW!'
(Sorry - knew to all this and don't know yet how to add the 'link'!)
Hope this helps - Jenny, Craig, Katrina . . . Nikky & Charlie too x

Thanks for that. I've seen it on ebay, and did wonder, it's nice to know you can make it fit. We've got two dogs as well, and think it would be a useful addition. We've not been camping yet, hopefully we can get away this weekend, weather permitting, I'm thinking it maybe too hot for the dogs, if this weather continues, but we have a Springer so if we can camp by the sea/river/canal, no problem for him!
OH is making a windbreak at the minute, he'd rather make then buy if he can, but I think we'll invest in a canopy. Did you get the black canopy? How did you find the colour if you did.
iv bought this tent aswell and also the vango canopy it does really well this is a great tent. I have put some sticky back velcro strips on the bottom of the doors as the side one lets a draft in this solves the problem. Happy camping

Hi Julie, yes - we bought the black/mercury one - didn't know if it would look right but it does - matches with the 'grey' block that is around the Caplan 5. We've added some pics now (in the tent review section - Hi Gear Caplan 5).
Great tip from boozybird regarding the velcro strips - will buy some before our next trip!
Re: dogs - I agree - would have been nicer for them if a little cooler.
I hope your first trip goes well,
