Am in the process of selling our trailer tent due to seperation but I still want to take the kids camping. I need a tent for the 3 of us that I can basically manage to put up on my own......maybe with a little assistance from my young son. I want a good one that will last a good few yrs and wont be blown away with the slightest bit of wind. So a strong, easy to erect, living space..... any advice would be really welcome because this will be a new thing for me managing on my own. I was looking at the quick erect Khyam tents, what are you views on them are they really that easy/quick to erect? thanks

I have the Licata 400 which is ideal for the 3 of us (me and 2 littlies aged 8 and 4)
I'm a short, unfit mum of 3 and can pitch it solo in about 30 minutes (including pegging, guys and bedroom pod) then about another 30 minutes to move in all the kit (beds, carpets etc...)
Spacious tent with good size living and bedroom areas. Bedroom pod can be divided, standing height, SIG, massive windows, good ventilation, king poles included so you can canopy 1 of the doors open to form a sun porch.
If you search the Net you can get it for less than £90 - BARGAIN!!!
I am a big fan of the Khyam Rapidex Quick Errect system, and have 2 myself, a Freelander that I can pitch up on my own and I am only 5'2, and a bigger and much heavier Excelsior XL that I can't.
The Freelander is only a 3-berth and it will be too small for 3 people.
The Explorer is a 4-berth and may be more suited to your needs. It has standing height bedroom section, which is a plus over the Freelander. I am most likely to replace my Freelander with an Explorer.
There are also Wayfarer and the Chatworth, which are bigger and heavier tents that may be a struggle to pitch up by one person.
A simple tarp over the front door of the Explorer will give you more shelter outside.
As the Explorer is new for 2010, I have not been able to find any reviews about this tent, sorry!
Hope this helps.

I'd like to put forward the Vango Icarus 500 classy well thought out tent you can stand up in, plenty of room and a doddle to pitch on your own - you can't go far wrong!

Hi, My sister is on her own with 2 children 10 and 6 yrs. She has the icarus 500 which she can put up independently and has ample room for the 3 of them. A really nice affordable little tent.

Thanks for your advice, still looking because I dont want to get it wrong. i am an 5ft2 woman with 2 young kids do you think the Wayfarer GT is an option or am I brking up the wrong tree. Otherwise the Icarus 500 sounds good.
I have camped a couple of times now on my own with my 3 year old and managed to get my quechua base seconds 4.2 tent up no problem on my own. my friend has one too and she goes away on her own with her 6 year old. the living space is quite adequate and the 2 bedroom pods take a double mattress each easily.
We have camped in really windy conditions and in the torrential rain and it stayed up and dry no problem. Can put it up the tent in approx 10-15mins but I am sure lots of people can do it faster. Good when you are trying to get it up in bad weather with a wee one on your own. Once you get the hang of getting it down its easy to dismantle in 10 mins.
Would highly recommend I have every confidence in putting this tent up and down on my own and it has plenty of space and very robust. £150 from decathalon stores
When I started camping as a single parent with a young son way back when, we had a Khyam QE tent and it worked really well for me/us. One of the few things about camping I got right first time. So a vote for those tried and tested tents from me.
I really like the canvas pyramid tents for our quite different needs now, and they would be worth considering too but, as said above, they do have proportionally less living space and they are quite Marmitey ie you either love them or hate them.
