I thought I would ask the experts for their views so here I am. I am looking to get a family tent for 2 adults and 2 kids and it looks like a 6 or 8 person tent would be ideal. Looking at reviews I've narrowed it down to either the Khyam Ontario ot the Wynnster Montpellier. Would people recommend these or are there others that are better?

Outwell Hartford xl`s are fantastic plenty of space and plenty of head room in the middle dome. All three pods are spacious and really warm but this all depends on your finances of course mine cost me £400 last summer but well worth it.
Out of those 2 I would go for the khyam. Never heard of any problems with them .
Can't find the post now ,it was quite a while ago , but the montpelier was said to have problems with leaking around the big windows .
You haven't mentioned budget, but we've just changed to a Khyam Harewood for 2 adults and 2 daughters and it's great. Quicker to pitch than our previous outwell and big enough - especially with options for additional space to be added as annexes etc.
They have the larger pod which has a dividing curtain - so they have some privacy and we have the slightly smaller one (but still big enough).
2009 models are cheaper, but still a little over £300 so not a cheap option.
Thanks for all your advice. I am thinking around the £300 ideally. I don't want to spend too little as I hopefully it will be used for many years to come. Will have a look at the items mentioned above!
Vm, dont think because of the price that the wynnster is a cheap and cheerful tent. its just on a sale discount at the minute, the reviews where brilliant and having used ours i have to agree, there are no doubt some tents that are better the kyhams and the outwells are very good tents but are they worth nearly £200 more than the wynnster?, i suppose only the owners of these tents could tell you.

Thanks for all the advice people! As whatever I choose will be relatively large will there be any problems for pitching it on a normal campsite pitch? And is there such a thing as a normal campsite pitch?
With a tunnel tent you should be ok really, it might be problematic with some of those huge pod style tents you can get though. I have an Ontario 8, its damned big, but its ot a conventional shape, so makes good use of its footprint without wasting space... if that makes sense?

Don't own an Ontario, but have the steel (uprights) poled Quebec 8, which is the same size and the size is good for a family of 4. Have pitched in pretty windy conditions fine and last week withstod 30mph+ winds admirably.
The ontario has 5 poles but the montpelier only has 4 , the extra pole on the ontario would provide extra support and stability on a larger tent I think .
The khyam cleveland looks a good buy at £279, the steel poles will be heavier and a larger pack size , but stronger and more sturdy in wind than fibreglass poles too.
Have you seen the Vango Columbia 600, a 2009 tent but the sage canopy, carpet and footprint groundsheet for the 2010 Sungari 600 fits, so you can get the key accessories. £280 (RRP 2009 = £450). 2/3 bedrooms, 5000HH, steel poles, SIG, full or part opening front, enclosed wet-weather entrance, Vango's TBSII internal strapping system that clips in place in windy weather to add even more stability. The tent was in Vango's Premium Family tent range last year. Its a bargain compared to this year's tents.
Vango's pitching video on YouTube gives some good interior shots (although the flymesh is on the left hand door not the porch door as shown).
