I was just wondering what is the least number of nights you would/have used your Monty for. So far we have only used ours once for 3 nights (was meant to be 5 but got away late due to illness). It seemed to take us an age to get him up and all our stuff inside and even longer to pack away.
We are supposed to be going away with a group of friends at the weekend for just 2 nights and i'm worried whilst they're off enjoying themselves we'll still be getting Monty up and ready.
Its a bit of a pointless post really as there is no way we could afford a weekend/smaller tent, Dh would have a fit if he thought I was even contemplating the idea but I was wondering, does it really get quicker as you get more used to it or should we just stick to longer trips to make it all worthwhile?
Many thanks
Laura

Shortest stay has been 2 nights. TBH, for weekends I really cut back on other stuff, not taking table/benches, kitchen stand etc. Pitching will be quicker the more you do it. From taking the tent out of the car to having it footprinted, pitched, carpeted and bedded takes about an hour!!
Do you take 2 mallets ? cuts the pegging out time in half if you both do it. Once you are used to pitching a few times it does get quicker as you develop a routine and you know what to do next. have a few practise runs at home if you have a big enough garden and try different methods of pitching to see whats quicker and easier for you.
I would take the sunvalley 8 (as big as the monty) and the same equipment whether it was just for 2 nights or a fortnight, just less food and clothes
. I don't mind the time it takes to set up, I really enjoy the pitching part of things .Its all part of the experience for me. I never even considered getting a smaller tent , I like the space of the big tents too much.
we would be all pitched , pegged and inside sorted in an hour too. Half an hour to pitch , half an hour to inflate make up beds, lay carpet, set up kitchen stand tables and chairs. I didn't have wardrobes/cupboards to put together though, I used to take clothes in storage boxes , or a tesco bag for life for each person.
when going with a group of families , if we would be cooking for the whole group together , we would not all take a cooker, stand , pots n pans , washing up bowls, fridge or coolbox each.
It made more sense for just one of us to bring the kitchen gear and bbq, and put the kitchen utility tent up, or set it all up in one tent awning or canopy
Ive pitched fully with awning and all the trimmings for 2 nights, my son nad my self have a routine where he uses cheep pegs to help hold the some of the guys etc down and i go round with deltas/rock pegs after and tension.
Im fussy so i make sure im the one who knocks all the pegs in place and tensions the tent/awning.
I make sure the missus is out of the way or i get stressed!!
Probably 1.5-2hrs max for everything completed, all mod cons etc..
LOL

we used ours for one night it wasn't planned but circumstances changed and it was all we could get away for. The Monty was new and I was dying to try it out !! It took us (mother and 17 year old daughter) 1 hour to fully pitch while my younger daughter did aerobeds and carpet, table and chairs. Then we spent next 15 mins doing kitchen and bedding. We thought it was worthwhile and agree the pitching is part of the fun. Of course think we will get a bit faster with practise We are off for 2 nights tomorrow !!!
We go away most wk ends in our Monty for 2 nights. You will find with pratice you can narrow the time down. It now takes us just over a hr to pitch the tent and extension and put the carpet down, infalte and make beds, set up kitchen and table and chairs ets. We put the tent up together and I then do the inside and cooking area while he's pegging everything down. And if where really, really lucky we might get a little help from one off the 3 kids lol. I love pitching the tent and the satisfaction you get when it's all done and you can sit down and relax with a cold beer

We have done a one nighter before we brought the Vango for weekends. Just take the basic gear and no awning, extensions, porta loo, inflatable sofa's etc. Areobed is 60seconds to inflate throw to sleeping bags and pillows on it done. no faffing about with building kitchen storage cupboard thing that got ditched first trip out as it took 20 minutes. no BBQ, big stoves and gas bottles just use suitcase stove, have fish and chips for the one night or treat yourself to a meal out
Less than an hour from arrive to tea. We dont use the two mallet trick, once the tent is up I peg out while OH does the beds carpets and kitchen.
One of these makes the kitchen a breeze to do.
