I've heard of people draping those aluminium coated blankets (think post marathons) over the bedroom sections to block out the light and also reflect the heat
I think that the consensus from most people on here is that when you camp, kids tend to go to bed late (because you can't get it to be dark no matter how hard you try; you can't get it to be quiet (caravans are better at both of these points than tents, but they can still be noisy!) and finally: It's a strange environment, so the kids don't actually want to sleep).
It might be a bit harder than when you're at home - you probably don't want to hear that - but we find that it gets easier after the first couple of days when the kids are used to the tent and the routine and also they're tired from all the outdoor air!
Thanks :) I have been looking into second hand camping trailers/pop tops (eg http://www.stimsondesigns.com/index2.php?link=multipod) for the noise-insulation issue while keeping the interior versatility of a tent, but you can take tents anywhere, ie Iona (pedestrians only), hence thinking down the tent route..
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
