Hi folks

First time on site so apologies if subject covered elsewhere;- I am trying to sort a reasonable sized canopy for my Kuro Sunncamp 500. The sunncamp Omni is the stock option however, while this would give protection to the front of the tent, it simply isn't big enough for "outdoor but sheltered" cooking etc. From the data sheets, I had it in my mind that either the Vango "large" or "Iccarus 500" canopies might fit, or be made to fit the Kuro. The sizes of both appear to be in line with the Kuro but, my concern is with the system for joing the tent and canopy together. I would be really grateful for any views or experiences on which of the two canopies would fit best, or indeed, whether there might be a better option availabe.

Best wishes

Hi guys......

I reckon that most of the canopies made for connecting to the "hoop" tents would fit your Kuro... in other words... If it's made for the Icarus, or similar shaped tents then in theory it should be a universal fit for MOST smallish tunnel tents, (don't go for the Coleman coastline canopy though as these need to be zipped on)

A lot of people on here have used them on different brands of tents with great results, They actually attach but lining up the back edge of the canopy with the front hoop of your tent(some canopies have an elasticated edge for a snugger fit) and then basically guying it out so that it is straight and taut ( 2 people are better than one!!)

Personally I would go for one of these for protection from rain at the front of the tent and then (for safety's) sake) invest in a small utility or kitchen tent to cook in.

I too bought an Omni for my Kuro 500, what a waste of money.  Hope we can find  type of canopy to fit as I like the kuro 500.  Keep you informed if I do.

-------------
It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.

I may have a possible canopy solution!!!

I found an advice forum on campingworld.co.uk and they have recommended the Vango large canopy

http://www.campingworld.co.uk/Models.aspx?ModelID=2904
I was told that it will be very difficult to find something that will fit exactly because of the small size our tent is, but this one although taller shuld be a good enough fit.

Please dont take this as gospel. Im going to buy one (from a company with a good returns policy) and if its not right ill send it back.

Watch this space, and ill let you know.x

If the Kuro 500 is similar to the Vango Icarus 500 then the Vango Premium Extension should fit. I've just posted the pic in another thread but here it is again. Check the dimensions online before ordering.

As a bit of an experient I put the Premium Extension over a smaller tent. I think that it shows that although this configuration doesn't work out all that well there is some room for flexibility with smaller tents (although maybe a bit bigger than a two man pop up)

Great pictures!

The Vango is similar to the Kuro but the Vango is wider, so it would be quite gappy, however, you make a good augument with your second picture, and that makes me wonder if I could live with a little gap - I think I might!

Even my Icarus is 10cm wider than the canopy, and I do have gaps on my main tent. I see it as ventilation. The dog sees it as a door.
