Hi guys,

As mentioned, we were looking for various tents (Arkansas5, Corado6, Croyde6 etc).

This weekend we were out visiting in Basingstoke, so opted to pop into Go Outdoors. We looked at many tents and found ourselves quite taken by a few of them.

We then noticed they were doing a deal on the Outwell Hartford XL for £250 + all its accessories for half price.

After a bit of head scratching and umming and areing we took the plunge and bought the lot (tent, canopy, carpet, footprint).

When we got back to my brother's house we checked it all out on the net, and found that this appears to be a fantastic deal, tent and all the above for aprox £360.

My brother who wasnt even looking for a tent wanted one after this but Basingstoke had sold out, so we drove to Oxford to get his.

We seem to have had a great deal here (or have we?) We are finding ourselves looking for problems, but as yet have found none. Have read the reviews on the forum and all seems good, is everyone really this happy with this tent?

We get to give it a test set up in my Father in laws garden next weekend.

Just one question, has anyone who owns one (or has owned one) been made to pay extra on sites because it is a big tent?

Depends on the site.
Tents over 5m wide or those which are X or Y shaped seem to cause the most problems due to their large footprint.

Many sites won't accept them or will charge extra or even for 2 pitches.
There is a pinned thread on the forum which lists sites that accept large tents.

You will find sites that will accept you, possibly without charging you extra, but you may find your choice is slightly more limited.

Our favourite site, Cote Ghyll in Osmotherley, accepts larger tents (we were pitched near 2 Hartford XXLs) but they do charge a slight premium.

Outwell is a well respected brand and there are several very happy XL and XXL owners on here.
