I don't have any personal knowledge of Tortuga, but it all looks good (apart from the price) I do prefer the higher sided Bell Tents as I think it would give you more usable space. I have my eye on THIS at the moment - not as weighty as the Tortuga, but the price is a also a lot lighter! I wouldn't have shared this, but the chances of me getting this now after just splashing out on a Polycotton are pretty slim It hasn't stopped me contacting the seller with a few question though! - Sides are 70cms high; natural off white coloured canvas and made by T10 (can't find any info on them either) I do like the look of this tent, especially the price. I know it’s only 185g/m2 but that’s enough for my needs (a few fair-weather romantic getaways for just me and the hubby). Maybe this tent is of interest to someone!
I have a heavy duty 4mtr bell tent with higher than average sids. The sides being higher than average, gives you a bigger CHR. If you didn't catch the thread re this subject, CHR is cylinder of head room. ( my invention) There were various equations posted on how to work this out, but basically, higher side walls give a slightly more head room. Back to topic, I've not noticed any problems with the sides being higher in strong winds, but it does have heavier fabric.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
