Which do you prefer? Anyone had either or both? We bought the Hartford recently in the Go Outdoors 'sale' but now that the Monty's coming up in a couple of weeks, we're wondering if we should go for that instead.

Help!

I'm personally not a fan of pod tents and prefer tunnel / frame (these tend to be more stable in weather) so I would go for the Monty ovr the Hartford every time.

Having said that, it's a personal choice and whatever works for you and the sites you use is the most important thing to consider.

Montana or a similar tunnel shape for me. more usable space and bedrooms that don't slope away to nothing.

Podded tents feel like they give more space but if you calculate the space they don't and all the doors opening onto a central area makes it difficult to use that area plus the problems of the pitch size with y shaped domes.

I have to say i'd go for the Monty, i have a monty but i had a Hertford xl the older version with the fly sheet but the Monty is far easier to erct and as stated has more usable space and in bad weather again the Monty is the better tent but thats my opinion i'm sure others will disagree when it come's down to it you buy whats right for you

Monty every time but I would say that wouldn't I? Seriously though, looked at both tents when buying and opted for the Monty in the end. A wise choice bearing in mind the weather we've camped in over the last 2 years!!! Also as stated before that pitch sizes can be a problem for the Hartford XL due to it's large footprint.

I'm going to be the odd one out here :)

Me, wife and 9yr old girl just preferred the feel of the Hartford. Both are great tents though so I would personally get to a showroom with them both pitched and stand inside them and feel for yourself.

Thanks for the info everyone. It's been a great help!

I've spoken to Go Outdoors and they're happyto let me exchange the Hartford nd accessories for the Montana 6 with front awning. Hubby and I like the 'feel' of a tunnel tent - probably because that's what we're used to. I'm also very tall and don't really feel comfy with the idea of the bedroom sloping down at the ends like they do in the Hartford.

Great stuff. I am sure you won't regret it.

Also very good of Go Outdoors. I've only used them once but I like what I see and hear.
