I have the Vango Icarus too but the 5 man one- I use it as a general purpose tent, either long or short stay. There are three of us, myself and two teenage children who are taller than me. I can pitch the tent by myself if needbe and it's done and dusted in 15 minutes. With help from the kids it's up in 10 minutes, now we've got it down to a fine art.
The bedroom pod is 280cm wide on the 5 man tent. That is enough for four in comfort I reckon. There is a dividing curtain and we tend to use it, the boys share one side and I have the other to myself with space for bags and walking on.

There are 5 of us and we use the Vango Artemis 600 for shorter trips. They have a 400 and 500 also and is steel poled so feel secure when the weather lets us down (as it inevitably does!!)
We have a Kampa Filey for our main tent and were looking for aweekend tent to house our family of 5. We ended up buying a Vango Tigris 800 which is just as big as the Filey but a liitle quicker to put up. So Iam now looking for a "weekend tent" . I know a few people who have the Icarus and say that they make great quick to put up, comfortable tents.
we just bought a quench 2 xxl and there are five of us, two adults and three small children. We bought it for kids back garden then realised it was so good we will use it for i night stops / weekends.

Useful post as I have been thinking the same thing.
We have a Monty 6, which was perfect for a wet week in Dorset. However it is a big tent and for weekends we don't really need so much living space.
So I was thinking of looking for a smaller tent. I am inclining towards canvas as whilst the Monty is generally great, it can get hot in sunny weather. So whilst I don't regret it as such, part of me wishes I had invested in canvas.
But I know canvas can be very expensive and I can't really justify spending a lot on a weekend tent! Also, as I understand, canvas can take up more car space that nylon tents which kind of defeats the object of having a weekend tent...
My husband thinks I am crazy by the way.
I have been looking for second-hand but as I live in London there seem to be very few people selling tents in this area (either on here or on Ebay) so it means either a long drive to collect or a huge postage fee.
for our main holidays we use a Khyam Ontario 8, as this has 1 large sleeping pod for our queen size double height bed, and 2 other pods, for the 3 kids, we decided to purchase a smaller tent, ie 6 berth down from 8, as anything smaller than 6 berth wouldnt have done.
We opted a Sunncamp Family vario 600 - 2 sleeping pods, just big enough for the 5 of us when it comes to the sleeping arrangements for a weekend, but not convenient for sleeping in any longer than 2 nights, plenty of living space, cant fault it on that, both equally easy to put up, just smaller all round which is better for the weekend, although always looking at whats about just in case.........
We have the sahara 6 and have brought the hi gear colarado 4 as our weekend tent. Its great it does have two bedrooms that can be zipped and made into one. Its a fab tent.to be honest we have the canopy as well so we are thinking of having it as our main tent.
Our friends have the Mojave five which is a fab weekend tent and has two separate bedrooms. they have it erected in about 15 mins it only has three poles.
nether would be great for you it just depends on how much room you want.
Have you thought of the 2011 Vango Calisto range with full flymesh options, steel poles (the front sloping to give extended full height living space and more upright front door), darkened inner tents....
------------- Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!
