Hi All,

First post, so please be gentle.
We've taken the plunge and bought a Demo Montana 6 and Awning. Unfortunately, when we collected them, the shop didn't give us the poles, pegs and repair kit for the Montana....I just thought they were in the roller bag . This will be fixed with a visit to the store tomorrow. Now please excuse my ignorance here, but can anybody tell me exactly how many pegs i should have for the tent? I understand that there are 3 types for the tent, steel corner, luminous for guys and black for other pegging areas. I'm guessing 4 steel and approx 20 for the guys, but can't really work out the blacks. My concern at the moment is that if the store can forget to give us the poles, they can forget to give us the right number of pegs. Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

Many Thanks

-------------
Steve

Whatever they give you, you'll soon be supplementing it with rock pegs and delta pegs if you read enough threads on here....

Hi and welcome

With the Outwells you get steel V pegs for the corners and Plastic pegs for the Guys and around the tent perimeter now plastics pegs are fine for normal and soft ground bur useless for hard ground so as Andy rightly says you will probably need to supplement these with other types of peg

Now you say this is an X Demo tent what I would be inclined to do if you have the room is pitch the tent in the garden then you can check everything is there , not damaged etc and give it a good soaking with the hose to check for leaks

Hope this helps

I've got the monty and awning too. Whatever you do. Make sure you get some rock pegs for the groundsheet as they are easier to position and knock in.

As already said, get some deltas, I am but am getting the stainless ones as I broken more nylon pegs than I care to mention. That said, I bought some vango nylon pegs and the shape/design is better than the standard outwell ones which keep bending when hit.

Extra guy ropes are a MUST for the awning because there is no SIG so it can be a large kite if not done properly (my error and just got it pegged properly last night in huge winds).

As already said, try it out after it was an ex demo. I'm sure it'll be find as customers walk into it, not climb on it but you never can be too safe.

Finally, please watch the U-tube videos on putting them up and folding them. Another fault of mine but they will be watched and instructions made when I get home

Happy camping

Hi All,
Many thanks for such quick and helpful responses....Great forum.
Quick update, went to tent store and collected the forgotten poles and pegs. All poles present and pegwise, there are the 4 steel corners and 20 black and 22 luminous, so that looks good. Still gonna get some 'hard ground' pegs as recommended though.
We also mentioned that the repair kit wasn't in the bag, so the guy gave us a roll of tenacious tape FOC. Trial run in the garden this w/e, then off to somewhere in Somerset first week in August.
Thanks again,

Do some Googling regarding Delta pegs as mentioned, I almost consider them essential when I go camping now. They are intended for use on the guy lines.

No, I don't work for the manufacturer or anything!

I just sleep better in the tent during a storm knowing I am using Delta pegs....

We just got the Vermont XL and although I had reservations about the plastic pegs I decided to rely on them for our practice pitch last weekend. After all, Outwell being Outwell, I assumed they would be something special. Big mistake. Thankfully I had taken 4 delta pegs.... this weekend I'm taking 10 delta pegs and 40 rock pegs and am doing away with all of the Outwell pegs. The steel ones they provided for the four corners just took chunks out of the mallets and the plastic pegs just wouldn't go in, and those we tried to force in bent and the top broke off some.... won't bother with them again (unless we find this weekend we don't have enough in which case we might have to use on the skirt around the porch....)

Regards,
Kathryn
