Hi all. Spent hours upon hours searching for the right tent...still confused. So many to choose from. I say I'm a new camper although I'm only just getting the true liking for delving in, and buy a proper tent and equipment....I currently have nothing (except a small basic argos tent)!!
I travel to Silverstone for the F1 most years, and always (just about) survived with the tiny 2-4 man argos cheapy tent. I've always looked around and admired all the other campers, with their huge tents and all the mod cons. Returning to my small tent and crouching over my threw away bbq is becoming less fun. This year I want to have a few mod cons myself. Taking my son this year to Silverstone for the F1, and want to purchase a 2nd tent, and a few cooking/sleeping etc items. I appreciated this is like opening a can of worms..but that's why I'm here..struggling to decide. Figure best to speak with members who own these tents or have personal experience with their makes/models.
To make this a little easier, I need a recommendation of a Tunnel type tent, although only 2 person will be living in it, want at least a 5 person for the extra space. Want to be able to stand up in in (5ft11"). Want the rooms all at the same end, not keen on the rooms at either end. Read reviews on here for Vango, and Outwell which seem the most popular makes, but again, many models..and which make is better?? Was hoping to spend about £200 for 2nd tent, and realize that maybe I may need to add a little more, although sure there are still good tents to be had at that price. The equipment I'll deal with another time. But would be grateful of any ideas on the best 5 man tents please.
Thank you. Paul.
Ps, be gentle with me...my first post :)

there are many fantastic tents out there and I love my 2011 Outwell Montana 6. There are also some bad ones but have a look around the forum for peoples feedback on their own or others they have come across.
If i were looking now I'd need to decide how early/late in the year I would use it, and how many pennies I had to spend. if it was summer only and limited budget then I would opt for a good quality polyester tent.
If I had the pennies and.or I was camping in the spring or autumn I would spend the extra and go for a poly-cotton as they are warmer when it's cool, and cooler when it gets sunnier..
with a budget of £200, take a look at Go-Outdoors deals on Hi-gear. They have the Sahara 6 family tent on for £229 ATM.
With a little help from the peeps on here, they may be able to help advising on a second hand tent. That way you can get a better grade tent for your money

hi paul and welcome... i believe the outwell nevada m is a well thought of tent on these forums, they usually retail about the £300 mark but there is a recent thread on here somewhere in which someone managed to get a pricematch off go outdoors of arround £230
Go Outdoors have a selection of tents ready erected that you can actually go in and get a feel for. Other camping/outdoor shops such as Decathlon, and some garden centres, also do displays.
There is no substitute for seeing a tent 'in the flesh' especially if you are on a budget. It is very difficult as you have found simply to read reviews and look at pictures and make an informed choice.
And welcome!

hi paul the thread on price matching is titled "Help ! Its becoming a blur !!! " in the tent talk, advice and info section it states you can currently get the nevada m for £216 from go outdoors plus a £5 membership card
and Sarah is right nothing beats seeing a tent in the flesh....
everyones got their own preference and checklist when it comes to finding a tent that is right for them....
Hi Paul. We've just bought a new outwell Winnipeg 600 on eBay for £165 which is a similar size to the Nevada m but a lot cheaper! I've only managed to in pack the box so far but we are going to try and pitch it this weekend.
We looked at the hi gear tents, but just didn't like the quality compared to outwells.
Two good 5 person tents are the Vango Icarus 500 and the Outwell Nevada M both good tents had both but prefer the Outwell although it would increase your budget a bit.
There are also a nummber of "Vacanza by Outwell" tents about at the moment such as the Winnipeg & Montreal which are basically lower spec Outwells put out under the "Vacanza" brand and were available last year through Argos

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again

Hi and welcome to UKCS. Go outdoors is a great place to start as the usually have an area set up with tents for you to get a feel for what you like and if you keep you eyes on them for a while, you will get a good bargain. We got our tent in July last year and got a package deal (tent, footprint and carpet) for £149. It is the voyager six. Give it a few weeks and lots of deals wil be out there. Take some time to decide what you want.

August 2013, 14, 15, 16 & 17-Trevornick for two and a half weeks of sea and surf (and ever optimistic -lots of sun). Some other weekends if I can persuade DH
Hi all. Thank you all for the valuable info. Will check some of those tents meantion. I found there is a go outdoors store 20 mins from me so will try to get down there...best leave my credit card at home! I'm prone to spending more once in the shop.
What is your thought on a outwell Oakland Xl tent? Been used once I'm told, and would except £200. Also been offered outwell Indiana 4 man for £80. Or wait and try and buy new?? Thoughts? :)
We've just purchased an Aztec Mardi Gras£129.99 with a carpet. I was a bit hesitant at first due to how cheap it was but we've just got back from a few nights away in it and I can't recommend it enough!
The Oakland XL is a lovely tent - can you get to see it in the flesh to be sure it is in good condition? If so, it sounds like a good deal. Also, as some people have already said, the Nevada M and the Vango Icarus 500 are both good 5 berth tents - and with the price matches to be had at the moment you could get yourself a really good deal.
Enjoy your trip to Go Outdoors, that is definitely the best way to decide what tent you like, go and have a look at them and see what you think.
Happy tent hunting!

They have just got an Outwell Navada M for just £172.80 ,they explain how on there .
Have just managed to do the same myself . Took a little bit of time to grasp the Price Match thing but it was well worth it as I have now saved loads .
This is a great tent and may just be perfect for you .
We now have two Outwell tents , the quality is great .
We did look at loads of other tents when we started our search for a weekend tent but kept coming back to the Navada M .
Thanks All again. Especially to 34Ford/Nutkin as.....
Just ordered the Outwell Navada M from Go Outdoors for £172.80! I had to pay £177.80 has I needed the discount card to take the offer. Complete with free delivery in 5-7 working days! What a breath of fresh air that is for me...I've been looking for so long, and got confused with all the makes/models.
Glad to of been able to afford a brand new tent too, for less than I was planning on spending. Nearly bought the used xl oakland mentioned above earlier. Was concerned though with some of those reviews on here of the xl, a few said it leaked for them.
So now I have the Outwell Navada M!! Really happy, although never saw this is the flesh(canvas). Just gone with all the rave reviews, lots of people seem very happy. Funny when I phone Go Outdoors and started telling them about this offer, he knew exactly what tent I wanted. Since (with all your kind help) I have a new tent, best start buying some equipment second hand. Think I'll just get some essentials for now, and add more for the next camp trip...has I'll be skint soon!! :)
Great stuff , you must be really pleased , as it can become a real trial trying to decide which tent is the best for you .
Now the fun starts , best fix a safty catch on your wallet as I'm sure that your going to find lots of nice new things to buy that you never even knew that you wanted !!
Strange that you want yours for going to F1 , as we're going to use ours for going to Hotrod & Drag race meets amongst other things .
