Hi,
We have just been away for a week and were under a tree in out outsell navada tent, we have the side extension and where the main tent has not been covered by the extension is has lost its water proofing. Do outwell advice not to pitch up by trees before I complain to them?
Thanks if you know the answer to this
Chris

I doubt that Outwell recommend not pitching under trees - if they do, it'll be because of the risk of falling branches rather than tree sap.
Loads of people camp under trees...
Tree sap is mainly water, sugar and minerals. Even the nasty sticky stuff that sometimes comes from tree leaves and insects living on them (especially if I park under one) shouldn't be able to damage waterproofing... Sorry, but I can't see how tree sap can have damaged the waterproofing.
Not that I'm an expert on tents, waterproofing or tree sap!
I'm afraid I think Outwell can't really be held responsible for something like this. If you got the tent covered in bird droppings from the trees, or damaged by a branch dropping on the tent in a storm, you couldn't really blame the manufacturer, and tree sap is just the same.
As iains says, we've all camped under trees at some point, and by rivers, and halfway up a hill. There's not really any ideal place to pitch, and you just have to run with what happens. A tent is a flimsy thing pitched outdoors in wind and weather, and will always be vulnerable.
If it's very sticky, I'd just sponge it gently with water. That will probably bring it off. As for waterproofing, I imagine that can be done with Fabsil or some similar product, but I've never used that on a polyester tent. I'm sure someone here will be able to give you advice on that. Hope you can restore the proofing.
Do you mean you have tried to remove the sap with a solvent & removed the proofing as well? If so reproof with Fabsil. As stated above, never try to remove sap, it is organic, it will just crumble away in time.
