Hi
We have got a Vango Icarus 500 which we have only used for weekends so far, we have decided to sell our Kampa filey 6 and just stick with the Icarus. It's for sell here in case anyone is interested.. Filey 6.

We are thinking of getting the extension for the Icarus, but are not sure if it will make it too big for standard sized pitches, what do you think? I would prefer a side extension but I don't think they do one. And do you have to get the same years extension as the tent, or will any year fit?

An extension would take you to a base length of 7.35m (tent only.....not inc. guy lines). Whilst I'd say most sites would accommodate that, it's always best to ring and check first.

Bear in mind that the 2012 model went wider than 2011,so I'd say an '11 extension on a '12 tent would be too tight, so yes, stick with same year. Previous to that, the greens changed as well, so another reason to keep the year the same.

If you are going second hand, make sure you concentrate on the year of manufacture, not the year the seller actually bought it! I bought a brand spanking new tent/extension in 2012, but my bargain price was due to it being the "old" 2011 model!

Hi
Mucker has covered everything, pitch sizes depends on each individual commercial campsite so no real answer to that other than contact the campsite with sizes first. Make sure you get the right years canopy up to and including 2011 is the narrow one 2012 is the wider one

We have the 2010 tent with the 2010 open canopy and a 2011 enclosed canopy, the enclosed one is a different green but can live with that. As Mucker says the 2012 version is slightly wider. Length wise it is not too big for camp site pitches. I am interested in trying to put both canopies on tent together, that would make it huge if it works

Thank you for the replies .
We bought the tent early in 2012, so I had better double check the year in case it was a 2011 version.
Is it easy enough to put the extension up, I read a couple of reviews and opinions seem mixed.

I have an enclosed extension and its really easy to put up. I do it on my own with no problems. I wouldn't really worry about it.
