Well decided to go for a bigger tent - been to GO and Towsure and seen a variety of makes etc, and got it narrowed down to a choice of 2.
Both OUtwells,
A Montana 6p or a Vermont XLP.
However we're struggling to choose, and asking those of you out there to convince us which is the better choice.
A monty with an enclosed extension making it almost the same price as the XLP - or go with XLP and its 2 rooms and type of built in extension.
Decisions decisions but need to make our minds up - help

We had the same problem fell in love with the monty 6p and Vermont only decided on the Vermont after speaking to the outwell guy and he said where would you cook and set the kitchen up
Monty 6p £649 ish porch £300 ish 6 poles in total and you have to put up the porch
Vermont xlp £999 ish no need for a porch as its built on and 5 poles in total
No contest when you think about it
Ok the Vermont is big but only 1 extra pole than the monty
So we bought the Vermont
Hope this helps

I...with others help...put up my Brand new Monty 6 for its test pitch last w/end...Myself and others were blown away by the space inside once it was up..4-5 people milling about the cooking area...But I don't think we got in each others way once...
Monty 6P...If I remember correctly..Is a bit bigger than the Monty 6...And similar in size to the Vermont XLP without the porch...
The Vermont has an attached porch where the 6P does not..
I think for the sake of versatility..I would go with the Monty 6P with the enclosed extension that can be removed or put up as and when you need it or it is practible to do so...
The Vermont has the extension built in...so the extension is part of the tent and has to be erected each time you pitch...Some times you might not need the porch..Or having the porch permanently on the Vermont could take you over some sites designated pitch sizes..
Whereas..If that was the case... with the Monty 6P you have the option of taking the enclosed extension off to allow you to fit the pitch or do without if you don't need it...
That versatility...would make me go for the Monty 6P

Hi
Decisions decisions I had an early Montana but sold it back in 2007 when the Vermont L came out and have never regretted it. Since bought it has never let us down, never leaked and nothing has broken or fallen off so im a bit biased but could never understand why the Vermont wasnt more popular as the enclosed front porch is the biggest selling point and with only 1 extra pole is easy to put up no fiddling with add on extensions. I can easily put the Vermont up on my own using the Cross Camping method.Never had any problems with pitch sizes and only once had to use a super pitch

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again

Oooo this might help.... Yeomans have the Vermont XLP for £799, and Monty for £499.
Go Outdoors are selling for £849 and £531 respectively.... time for a price match may be???
They were the 2 we liked, too, and deliberated for the same reasons. In the end, we wanted the xlp, because its for our 'more than 2 nights' tent, and we liked the extra space. As it turns out, we couldnt justify the cost yet, so we've bought a 2011 vermont xl instead. I guess it depends if its gonna be your only tent or not? If it is, id go with the monty and extension, then you have weekend-ish tent for short trips, but can make extra space for longer trips. If its gonna be for long trips, id go with the Vermont everytime :)

And because of this dilemma you may find yourself owning both at some point in the future!!!
Both fantastic tents.
I love the Vermont with its sealed - part-of-the-tent porch - wind and waterproof big space.
I love the versatility and flexibility of the smaller Montana with a porch you can attach if you need the space or leave behind if you fancy a quick weekend / cpl nights away trip & need less space?
You definitely need both tents!!!

Actually just noticed that youve an Iccy 500 and canopy..theres your smaller weekend tent...get the Vermont :) Some clever bargaining and playing the price match game while everyone is doing 20% off weekends etc will probably see you get a very good deal on one!
We had a simillar deliberation but opted for the Vermont L - we are now in our second season and love it, love it, love it. The space it gives is amazing. For long trips we have the side awning as well which serves as our kitchen. I dont think pitching time would be much longer with the vermont, and the the advantage of not having the draught associated with an extension / awning makes a big difference. I am assumning the montana awning will attach something similar to the vermont or the nevada - the overlapping fabric can be noisy and vulnerable to the wind, you dont have this issue with the vermont's built in area. As mentioned above the only downside is that you have to be a bit more selective with campsites and there pitch sizes.
The vermont xlp is wider than the monty P so the bedrooms are bigger, we love this aspect as the Vermont setup is 140+160+140 which gives us and our 2 pre-teen girls lots of space. The monty has 2 bedrooms 180+180.

We have the XLP & there is only the two of us...had an Iccy 500 & found it way too small, even with a cannopy, especially in our varied climate.
We just love having the *conservatory* for cooking in, the seperate wardrobe, the en suite, & the option of one big room or 2 seperate areas...such a luxury to have so much space
i would like to say i have the xlp mainly for the bedroom space but also as said the addition of the front room will make a great kitchen or sitting room
also just a quick note i just purchased today as a matter of fact
yeomans has the side extension awning for sale at £199.99 and go outdoors has it at £280 did a price match and purchased the side awning for £179.99 so this may help if looking for a big big big tent
