We had our first camping trip with our tent, but found that the design was terrible in wind.
We are now thinking of selling this one as only pitched once and hopefully recouping some money, then invest in a tunnel tent. As all the other tents on site were tunnel tents with the thicker poles and they seemed to stand up to the wind better.
What actually happened with ours is that the curved poles to each end ie one at sleeping end and one at other end, they completely buckled inwards nearly touching the floor! There were no other anchor points to put additional guy ropes on.
However, we loved the massive living space and the extension. The advantages of the extension was the fact that we used it as a separate kitchen without letting cooking smells get into tent and it had a zipped door enabling us to leave everything in it.
I thinnk going forward we would like slightly larger sleeping areas, there is room for a double airbed in both of the pods, but it would be great if one was a little larger to enable a bedside table/getting out of bed space!
Any recommendations?
Must have a separate kitchen area with zipped door/or an extension that can provide this.
There is only 3 of us, but we like the large living area.
No real budget as I will buy second-hand.
Oh and please excuse real mess inside tent, we have just pitched in an absolute downpour and had to hang everything up to dry out!

Have a look on tent reviews here.
Tunnel tents handle the wind well. We have an Outwell Colorado 5 and it has stood up to absolutely everything including gusts of 40mph+

I was recently at a camp site with 45mph winds and it was noticeably just how much more those tents side-on (which I'm guessing yours was by the description) to the wind suffered compared to those end on.
Not saying thicker poled tents won't cope better (and of course frame tents or thick steel poled should do great ) but pitching the right way to the wind makes a HUGE difference.
Looking at that tend design pitching with the bedroom to the wind would mean those end guys would take the straight (helped by the actual fabric of the tent) and assisted by the pair of guys on the pole nearest the bedroom would take the strain and the poles shouldn't be particularly deflected.

We have a coleman mckenzie cabin 6, its stell frame and its fab, there are 5 of us and plenty of room, we went away last week its was beautiful and sunny but very windy and the tent didnt budge at all, The awning on the first night flapped a little but hubby sorted it out the night morning and it was great then! Sorry not sure how to put my photos on here, can email you some though if you like!

Try Dutch pyramid canvas tents, as they are often described as "storm" tents due to their sloping sides and large number of pegging points, which make them very stable in stormy weather.
I bought my Hypercamp Escala 4 to replace my Khyam Freelander that was damaged beyond repair in Sep 2011 by the strong winds.
My Escala 4 stood up to the elements last year, and it is quieter in the wind too, just ask my dog who is easily startled by wind noises.
There is a bigger version to the Escala 4, namely the Palamos 6, and there is also the Superieur 6 that does not appear to be listed in the Obelink's UK website, however, it is listed in their Dutch website.
Steel poles are definitely more wind-resistance than fibreglass poles.

In response to Katier. We pitched when there wasn't any wind and came back to find the tent to be buckled in at the living area end which was was faced into the wind.
So we then proceeded to empty the tent and turned the long side rear of the tent into the wind and it was much better, only to find the wind changed direction to face the bedroom end of the tent 4 hours later!
We were on a coastal site with 45mph winds, needless to say there will be no more coastal sites for us with this tent.

We love our Kauai Reef, integrated porch is a star and its a good sized living area. Design means its stable too. Ive posted pictures in the review section.
The Maritsa 700 would probably meet all your criteria - loads of space, larger bedrooms, seperate porch area (but till part of the tent) & steel poles. Pics of ours taken last week are below. The bedrooms are a 3 berth & 2 berth with divider which we opened up into one big room, & then a seperate 2 berth pod. Like you, we pitched in calm weather but thankfully, when the wind got up later in the week, we were 'bum to the wind' & the tent was really stable.
We'd love a polycotton tent but can't afford one right now so we're more than happy with the Maritsa.
Hi Nathan, it's a Quechua one from Decathlon - only £25 including 2 x 6' poles. We added an extra extending pole from Go Outdoors. We bought it so we could keep the porch door wide open for cooking if it was raining but ended up using it as a sun-shade instead!
