Just spent fab weekend at shell island in a shared tent which has revived my desire to camp.I am now looking at buying Outwell whitecove 6 tent for a family of 4 and a large labrador.
I know this is a new tent but has anyone brought and used one?
Am I paying too much (400 pounds) for a first tent, does it pitch easily etc etc
Thanks for looking....

Sorry I can't help with any advice or comments about the tent, other than to say Outwell are a well respected brand. I am sure another member will be along shortly with some far more helpful advice!
Just wanted to say welcome to the forum and to wish you many happy camping trips.
You will probably find your wants/requirements of a tent will change after you've been on holiday with it or on reading this forum!! But I think you realise this as I note your use of the phrase "first tent".
I would take a look on gumtree/ebay. You can usually find complete camping kits, tents and all the bits and bobs you will need. Then if you discover camping is not for you or you decide to upgrade your tent, you won't have the depreciation from new.
Other big factor as Dave says is space. With 4 people in the car and a dog, it doesn't leave much room for camping kit. So you may have to factor in the cost of a roof box or trailer....
Tent expenditure is just the start of your camping overdraft....
As for pitching the whitecove I don't know if you noticed the pitching video on the Outwell site? This gives an idea of how easy it will be to pitch. I have an outwell tunnel tent and its pretty straightforward to pitch and can be done single handed. Down side to the fibreglass poled polyester tents is that there is a bit more movement in them compared to steel/alu poled tents.

Thank you for replies.
Have just got vauxhall zafira but realise space will still be at a premium.is there anyone out there who is using a roof bag as a cheaper alternative to box.Thinking of buying one to pack up bulky sleeping bags, clothes etc.
Would like to walk up mt snowdon in summer and need opinion on suitable camp sites please.
Yes we have a Thule roof bag, as we have nowhere to keep a roof box! The bag rolls up into a bag of its own, about the size of a double roll top camping table.
It it, we can get five sleeping bags, three sims, two double bed blankets, three camping pillows, two regular pillows (vacuum packed), travel towels and beach towels (also vacuum packed).
Sorry, can't help with campsites near Snowdon! Have a look in the campsite reviews section.
Thanks for replying
how do you vacuum pack stuff for return journey? Did bag and contents remain dry in wet conditions?
I plan to walk up Snowdon with dog but wife and kids may use train.Willm they be able to occupy themselves while they wait for me?
I've stayed at that campsite and it was great. It has it's own pub with good food and a steam railway runs through the centre of the site. If you are camping in the first field you need to use a bridge over the railway line to get to the shower block. Kids on the site loved seeing the trains come in (usually about 1 every hour but not at night). I would definitely recommend this site.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
