Small family of 5 new to camping. Went for first time this summer in a £100 Vango 5-man tent and loved it so we went to Go Outdoors to have a browse and ended up buying a Outwell Montana 6p.
It is a customer return. Apparently the customer pitched it to test it out and couldn't fit it back into the bag. It has been checked by store and no faults could be found.
I bought it for £430 reduced from their new price of £699. I've been told I can pitch it and test it out. If not completely satisfied return within 28 days.
Heavens have opened up today, so might be a while til I get the chance, but I just wanted to get some opinions on whether the price is good.
Of course I googled reviews and online prices when I got home but this 2014 6p is exclusive to Go Outdoors so I can't really get a direct comparison.
Probably won't get used until next year so if opinion is that the price isn't that great, can easily return it for full refund.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

It's not too bad price wise, I spotted one from Casey's through Amazon for £399.95 but when you add postage you're not saving much at all. Also you run the risk that there may be a fault ( unlikely but it's always possible ). If I were you I'd stick with what you've got and pray for a dry day to test pitch it.
------------- Dance before the storm and don't look back to where you've been.
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, you obviously haven't grasped the gravity of the situation.
Personally, I wouldn't trust the "It has been checked by store and no faults could be found." bit. Definitely get it pitched and checked over yourself, in time to return it (if need be) within the 28 days.
If it's perfect, then you have yourself a bargain, I'd have thought.
If it has a loose toggle, or a missing peg elastic, the bargain still stands.
If, however, it looks used, abused, damaged ( rips? Broken zips? stitching coming undone/strained, broken/bent pole(s) etc.) then obviously it needs a refund.
It could be said that GO's check wasn't very thorough.
It could be said that the previous owners actually used it, broke a zip (eg), nicked the pegs, and took the chance on taking it back!
Like I say... trust no one!
Let us know how you get on, and hopefully we'll all be congratulating you on your new bargain tent!
After 2 solid weeks of rain, we finally got a break and managed to pitch the tent. Lovely size, really easy to put up and take down (with 2).
But ... was missing several pegs, others were bent or broken, poles must have been stored wet because they were rusted on the inside. Had stains on the top like it had been pitched a while and someone even left their anti-histamine tablets inside one of the pouches.
For the price didn't fancy a used tent which obviously had not been cared for, so sadly returned it.
Go outdoors were fine with the return. It's a pity they didn't inspect it better before putting it on the shop floor, but we did get the test it out for ourselves.
Might still buy the Montana if we see it on a good deal. The missus was very happy with it. Personally, I think an 8 man tent with 4 bedrooms might last us a bit longer - 2 girls, 1 boy.
Thanks for the advice guys.
