Thanks again for all your comments. I'm pretty sure it's not just the fibreglass pole pins that are covered. I can't face battling to get the tent back in its bag to be absolutely certain though!
It does sound like the pins shouldn't be covered so we'll probably try and swap them for uncovered ones.
Definitely a good advert for the test pitch in the garden though!

We have the Glendale 5, had it for three or four years now but the pins are naked. They are still hard to fit into the bottom of the poles especially when its wet on the side without adjustment.
