Have been over on The Marketplace and have seen a couple of Canvas tents one being a Di Wit Atlanta 6 and the other being the De Ward Albatross.
Has anyone got experience of 1.these tents. and 2.buying from the Dutch version of Ebay is it?
How about postage from there?
Will i get clobbered with import tax?
Lastly am i best just going for a Touareg,Bell,Palamos or the Barbados instead??
Any help much appreciated.
Regards.

Try some of the couriers online for quotes, price dependant on weight over 31kgs and it seems to get very expensive.
Maybe there is a possibility of multiple packages so that it keeps the weight down.
Risky buying a tent unseen. I bought a used Karsten from Karsten themselves to reduce the risk. Cost 75 Euros to Ship to the UK. They split it into 3 packages
to keep below the 31kgs
Hi sharkey. As this seems to be your 3rd thread on basically the same question. As there is only the 2 of us when we camp, I feel I am not the best person to advise on family camping. But having got a 5 metre bell all I can tell you is they are spacious and cool on hot days, but I think if I was taking a couple of teenagers and like you had £1000 to spend I would forget the tents you mention and go for the Emporer link The other thing I like about them is you can add a standard Bell tent to the side of them should you or your teenagers want their own private space later on. Geoff
Or use the bell on its own if you manage to get away on your own. Good luck
No import tax as its all EU so same as buying in UK. Probably a better bet is to wait until next yr & incorporate a Dutch tent buying trip into a Dutch camping trip, its a good place to go camping. As pointed out, probably not advisable to buy a secondhand tent unseen from private buyer but might be ok with plenty of pics & good communication, plenty of Dutch speak fluent English.

I would add ....not 100% sure but led to believe that Marktplaats does have different rules than ebay...it's not just a case of placing a bid & 'winning' either buyer or seller can pull out at any time ...the seller does not have to sell & the buyer also does not have to go through with the purchase...so not as clean cut as ebay ...as when you bid you win, you pay & then get the goods... ( in the perfect world ).
I would concur that if you do wish to go ahead that most dutch people will speak/ type excellent English so communication should not be a problem.
I've bought two De Waards from Marktplaats. The first, I had couriered back, the second I collected myself.
Firstly De Waard. Excellent tents, well made and if looked after will last a long time. The Albatross is a great family tent - but it is quite heavy and takes a lot of room in the car.
The key I think is the condition of the tent. The one thing that will kill them is mould. You really need to see the tent before you buy which makes buying from Markplaats hard, or else you are buying on trust. Ask if they will send a photo of the canvas as is ie not a holiday photo taken 5 years ago.
The last tent I bought was from a family who, like me, love De Waard. They had the original receipt, all the original bags and were happy to send me a photo of the canvas, showing it was in good condition. All signs that the tent has been well looked after.
If you are going to courier, then you want them to pack into 3 seperate bags to try to keep the cost down, but you are still probably looking at £150 to get it here.
Or have a trip to Holland, it's a lovely country.
Finally, worth looking at www.dewaardforum.nl if you are really interested as there are lots of people on there who have done the same.
Have been in contact the dutch sellers of a Di Wit Atlanta 6 and they can courier the tent for 50 euros with a company they named as GLS a total of 350 euros all in,tent is apparently a 2005 model.
Is that too cheap as in the cost reflects the condition and so i should leave well alone?
How good are Di Wit Atlanta 6 tents with regards to quality and against say the Palamos or Barbados.
Finally how or by what means can you pay?
Regards.

You can pay by bank transfer, your bank to their bank, but your bank will charge a fee for this. Fees vary but last time I did it a few yrs ago fee was £15. I bought something off German ebay for 100€ a while ago & I just sent money cash in an envelope so thats another option if you want to take the chance.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
