Hi, would love some advice please.
We are a family of 2 adults, 2 small children and are looking to buy an air tent. Have done quite a bit of research but seem to be going round in circles now!!
We only have a small budget £350-£500 max (won't get the outwell we would love).
Started looking a decathlon, but only 2000 HH, is this enough for the UK? The tent will be used for weekends and the odd family festival, would really love a Mesh door though so next was the Kampa Brean 4, lots of good points, mainly much more waterproof. Also have seen a Halfords Urban Escape 6 man, like this but it is massive and the 4 berth is small aargh!!,
I know a lot is personal as to what tent is right but wondered if there was anything else anyone had seen around or if there are pitfalls to paying a relatively small amount for an air tent?
Our other tent is a steel framed Hi gear corado 4, love the tent size but is too bulky in the car with the poles and I am NOT buying a trailer!!
Any advice would be gratefully received, thanks

Hi
If pack size is a big factor in your decision, then an airtent may not be the way to go. The airbeams when deflated are much bulkier than a steel tent pole, and being an integral part of the tent can't be transported in a separate bag. The end result is like for like an air tent will probably have a bigger and heavier bag than its poled equivalent.
Hi Jim1977, thanks for the reply, take on board your comments about pack size, our existing tent has two bags. Both fairly large but with a whopping combined weight of 44 kgs so anything smaller is a bonus!!
The air beam style is favourable as with two 4 year olds, the quicker pitched the better, also less stress between adults and my lack of following basic instruction may help for a smoother set up and pack away.
Cheers
Hi Mrs s...Assuming you are within reach of go outdoors..and that applies to most of us!!!--I would recommend a look at the Airgo Cirrus 4. I have just bought my 1st airtent-the stratus 4 and to be honest the quality is excellent. These tents are made by hi-gear who appear to have really upped their game lately. They are bulky when packed but the 50 second pump-up was proved to me by a very helpful and knowledgeable staff member. They have a 6000hh rating and fly-mesh over the front door for certain..twin cable entries which are hard to see in the pictures. It is at the top end of your budget at £500---but thats why we have credit cards .I looked at the cirrus with the optional porch fitted and this makes a very large space---xmas list perhaps?.I am a self-confessed tentaholic and have owned most types and makes over the years but never rated hi-gear as a brand--until now. Well worth a look---and a shake/poke/sniff etc. Happy camping
A little p.s for anybody interested---A new event shelter type thing also out and made by Hi-gear..looks really good and should give the coleman event shelter a bit of competition!

We have bought the Kampa Brean 4 air (we bought a package so we got the footprint and carpet too) - we haven't used it yet, but we purchased it due to value, size and features. We are only 2 adults to be using this (kids all grown up), but there would be plenty of room should we wish to take along future grandchildren.
Our first time to use the tent will be in about 40 days - and I can't wait.
Sorry that the reply may not have been very helpful, but thought I would post it anyway. Hope you find the tent for you and your family.
Thanks both for the replies, any advice is welcome and nice to know of tents that you would recommend as it is all well and good reading up on them, but more helpful to hear about any positives or negatives to look at!
Bryan- our current tent is a hi gear and must admit it has a lot of plus points for the money so definitely happy to look at another one.
Happy campimg x
Just a quick question, do you have a roof box ? I see you don't want a trailer ( you will one day) however I have just purchased a vango Solaris 500. It's a good size and the pack isn't huge . I'm going to try and get away without a trailer this year as mine died and can't afford a new one. Which is why we got the vango. It's a good tent for 2 adults and 2 small kids.

Hi skipp, yes we already have a roof box and a large boot on the car, must just take too much stuff but I do like to be comfortable. Thinking we may sell our existing tent and use the extra funds to get exactly what we want and what will suit us for a few years to come.....anyone want to buy a hardly used Hi Gear Corado 4?!!
I can highly recommend the Hi-Gear Airgo Stratus 4. At 20 kgs I don't want to carry it too far but it stood up to some fairly horrendous weather without shifting and is easy to put up and take down single handed. The only downside is the sloping front but its not the only tent suffering from this weakness. Adding a tarp or canopy would solve the problem - except in a gale!
