Hi, I wonder if anyone with this tent can help? In heavy rain the roof 'leaks' what i can only describe as a mist coming through it. Anyone else have this problem? Its the 2011 model, with the stripey bedrooms. We've waterproofed it with fabsil as suggested as it happened last year but has happened again this year. Ive contacted the dealer and outwell and still waiting to hear. Its hardly been used and its out of warantee now. Help someone please

Iv had that same " mist effect " too in the past with other tents.

If you look at the material closely with daylight behind it, you ll see tiny tiny air gaps between the threads which form the material.
The material slightly porous and not like a sheet of plastic / metal etc.

In heavy heavy rain, as the water drops hammer against the fabric, the water drops break up and tiny amounts will come through and cause the mist effect your experiencing.

The cure is a tent with a thicker / heavier / different roof fabric ( some continental frame tents use pvc roofs which avoids this happening )

A vango awning I just bought has a 420D fabric and it's really thick, the gaps between the threads which would allow misting in Very Heavy rain are minuscule and the last heavy shower I experienced with it showed no sign of the misting I had before with a different Vango & Outwell tent.

I'd put it down to something that happens with that tent whilst camping in Very Heavy rain- it's not a fault - material is not 100% waterproof in the way a caravan or house roof might be
It's water resistant - but only to a point.

You could try one of the Outwell Roof Protectors / put up with it / change the tent ... Depending how you feel about it.

Thanks, we've not come across anyone else who has heard of this. The rain was just coming down in very large droplets so not so much heavy rain, just large drops. It stands up to fine rain which comes down heavy. Thing is its quite an expensive tent. We've waterproofed it and its still happening. Not good as it makes everything inside damp. Just really disappointed and don't know what to do. We contacted outwell last year after only our second time of using the tent and we did as they suggested. Feeling a bit fed up....

Unfortunately I think you ll find its not a fault with the tent as such...

The same will happen with an umbrella in Very Heavy rain drops - even an expensive umbrella - it's made of a fabric which has thousands of tiny holes in ... And water is very good at finding its way through.

I know exactly what you mean as iv been through this experience. And yes, it does make it damp inside the tent.

You may like to try a cotton tent - cotton is a different kind of material to nylon and polyester.
When the cotton gets wet, the threads n fibres expand and these thousands of tiny holes close up and the tent can shed water better.

My 30+ year old canvas frame tent is better at staying dry inside than many much newer tents made using man made fibres iv owned.

It's probably not the answer your hoping to hear ... But it's reality unfort.
