My Hi Gear Mojave 5 is only 3 years old but has started to leak in heavy or prolonged rain. Anyone got any experience of reproofing a tent? Is it worth it? What product did you use? Any good tips?

If the tent isn't pitched on perfectly flat ground sometimes it's hard to get the tent tensioned properly. The water pools and doesn't run off if it's really heavy or prolonged rain and seems to soak through the main part of the roof panel.

Having just looked at photos on the tent reviews a slack roof seems to be a common problem with the Mojave 5. If water is pooling on the roof then not only could it eventually leak through but more than likely the cold water on the outside of the tent will cause a lot of condensation on the inside giving the impression it is leaking. I am not sure that waterproofing it will help much. If the roof isn't tensioned enough to make it domed so that water runs off easily then that will always be a problem.

Usually a tent only needs reproofing if the rain water has stopped beading and running off. It then soaks into the outer material making it look wet but it still shouldn't leak. If the roof is catching a puddle of water then all the reproofing in the world won't help it.
