Does anyone know where I could get replacement poles for our beloved Biscaya 500? It's a 2009 model (black and yellow). Is it worth trying Cabanon ? After all the model is discontinued. My other thought was does anybody know where in the uk it's posiible to get tent poles made? I don't mind spending the money as the tents are eyewateringly expensive in the first place.
The problem seems that the thinner aluminium used in the earlier models just isn't man enough for the weight of the canvas and despite very careful pitching some of the poles are beginning to shear around the spring-lock buttons. It's only a matter of time before one splits. I'd like to replace the three internal main poles.
We love this tent so much and would hate for this problem to necessitate it's replacement. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

Yep, I did read back in 2008 that the bigger Biscaya's were having issues with Poles splitting etc.
And the don't come much bigger than the Biscaya 500.
You could be in luck if you can get in contact with Cabanon, as the Poles for the Awaya range are the same diameter as the Biscaya Poles at 28mm difference being as you have pointed out is that the wall thickness on your Poles is 1mm the Awaya Poles are 1.5mm.
Firstly try writing to Cabanon at Dunkerque, they only seem to respond to Snail Mail, but you could try email as well.
Allow around 4 months for a response, if after that you have got no where, pay a visit to TVS at Bolton they are a Cabanon service agent, David the owner there put me in contact with the Cabanon UK rep, my problem was then soon resolved by the Cabanon factory in Dunkerque.
One of the reason we went for the Biscaya 370 Cotton, was that the 23mm Steel Poles are 2mm Wall thickness, and I have to say after 7 years use they are all still in fine fettle, but the Pole Bag weighs about 25kg!
Good luck in your quest, well worth the effort for what is a fine Tent, let us know how you get on.
I've got a Biscaya 500 and have used it from new for two summers now but luckily haven't had any shearing of the area around the pole locks. I did sell my Biscaya 370 a couple of years ago and that had just started to have a bit of shearing around one of the poles. Perhaps it's a general fault of the 1mm aluminium poles. I'd be really interested to know how you get on in case I experience the same issue in the future. Good luck!
Thank you all for the help. I've messaged Cabanon on Facebook and will also speak to TVS - while I'm at it, I'll also ask if they could knock me up an imitation Biscaya 500 sun canopy - I've been after one for 3 years now with no luck - there like hens teeth!
You are right about how difficult it is to get hold of a Biscaya 500 sun canopy. Just before they went bust I asked Casey's at Cheshire to see if they could source one from Cabanon directly but it was a simple 'non!' Luckily I managed to get one from Forest Camping for a 'bargain'
£230 in September 2013 (it was actually listed as £300). Might have been one of the very last brand new ones in the country.
