As posted in my Vango Edoras 500XL thread, due to Vango not having enough footrpints made I was unable to purchase this when buying the tent and carpet last weekend.

Before I buy from another supplier (of which there are very few with it in stock) I am looking at perhaps a compatible footprint which could be from any manufacturer and might be cheaper if from an older now discontinued tent.

I got close when looking yesterday with an older Outwell Biscayne 6 footprint, but not close enough sadly.

So does anyone know of a footprint that is approx 500cm x 360cm that I might be able to get my hands on?

Easycamp Boston 600 footprint looking promising. Tent is slightly smaller than the Edoras 500XL by 5 cm in length and 10 cm width; so footprint should be perfect.

What are the benefits of buying a footprint for your tent?

Why not buy a Tarpaulin of the right size (or as close as possible).

A footprint helps to protect a sewn in groundsheet from damage by tree roots, stones, thorns and other sharp objects that might not be noticed when pitching. It also helps with insulation and keeps the bottom of the tent clean and dry which means you can pack away a dry, clean tent. The tarpaulin/footprint can just be folded or rolled up and cleaned at home far easier than the bottom of the tent groundsheet.

The only thing to consider is that the footprint should be a few inches shorter than the base of the tent all round so that water doesn't drip on it from the flysheet and run back underneath the tent, pooling between the footprint and the groundsheet.

Bearing in mind that we don't normally walk right up to the walls of the tent there is no need for the footprint to fit exactly...that applies to tent carpet too.

Vango website appears to have these in stock from what I can see:

I've done this with other tents.

However have bought an Easy Camp footprint for a now discontinued tent from ebay which will be a perfect match for the Edoras 500XL. Paid well below half what it would have cost for the Vango custom made Footprint.

Vango are a bit naughty really as already they don't have enough stock to send to their approved retailers. If you order from the Vango website direct they will call in stock from the retailers they have already supplied in order to fulfil orders.

Problem solved as I have picked up a perfect match Footprint for a now discontinued Easy Camp tent at well under half the price of the Vango custom made footprint.

The compatible Easy Camp Boston 600 footprint that I purchased from Charlies Direct via ebay for £19.99 was badly damaged at the point they got it from the warehouse so couldn't proceed.

After much trawling through tent dimensions have now ordered an Outwell Hilo Reef footprint from Norwich Camping, which is an even better match, albeit a bit more costly at £26.98 with delivery. Even so still much cheaper than the £45 for the Vango custom made.

My new tent came from Norwich Camping. They seem to be a pretty good company (assuming my tent doesn't fall to bits the first time I get to use it)
