The original poster was making the point that polyester air tents seem to be an odd choice in comparison to canvas tents, because they are similar cost and bulk, but condensation is much worse in a polyester tent. So it wasn't a downer on air tents as such, it was more a weighing up of pros and cons from someone with an expressed preference for cotton canvas.

Cool - not exactly small (but maybe by UKC standards!).

Again, big chunk of that is single skin.

Aye - frozen water in dog bowl was first sign of the frost when we got up last weekend!

I agree with this as I too was thinking along those lines. We have two poly tents one air and one pole. Both suffer the same condensation problems. Think the op was just noting the difference between Poly cotton and polyester in terms of comfort levels and "air" tents got caught up in it!

The only thing I have found is to make sure the outside of the tent is as dry as possible as soon as you notice the condensation. I have a microfibre trek towel for this job and it seems to help it dry out quicker.

Many things make campers choose one thing over another. Pros and cons to all tents and I suppose people are happy to put up with some things over others.

I am happy with our choice despite the condensation as they give other bonus features as part of the weighing up process.

Now if they made a nice light polycotton tent with an airframe in a 4-5 man config with a large integral porch with a zip up huge door for less that £700 I would buy one. For now I like the Outwell Corvette L poly air tent.

To be honest I love seeing all the different colours shapes, sizes, frame types and I also like to envy the poly cotton tents until I see the size and weight.
