Practice pitch this weekend. Weather forecast looks good. Can't in the evenings as it is getting dark as I type.
I ordered a cotton tarp from Amazon so hopefully will give it a shot too. I already have a footprint so as long as it is dry ......

The tarp is still in a post office in Germany according to DHL. I doubt I'll have it by the weekend.

The 5 x 2 reenactment tarp arrived today. Seems very good from my indoors inspection. Also 4 large Clingons and more white guys.I prepared 6 guylines for the tarp with carabiners. I think I will need ridge poles or at least two ridge lines. The tarp is as heavy as my force ten. All packed away now in a cotton canvas bag.
I didn't get the chance to practice pitch but I'm off for a week at the end of the month so maybe then.

My Alaska is getting it's first real outing this weekend - All booke and ready to go. We will be putting it up at our usual May venue - Ballinacourty house. The owner sees us with different tents every time we go. A review of the tent will follow.

Yes indeedy. I will be doing a bit of experimenting with ridge poles etc. I need the reenactment tarp for my kitchen. I think the secret with the reenactment tarp is to get it as taut as possible so it sheds rain. This can be a really windy site. The gusts build up down the glen and hit like a train so we will be pitching bum to the wind. Here is hoping for a dry pitch and strike. I always seem to come home with a wet tent.
Comprehensive pics will be taken both inside and out. I don't go in for bunting so it will just be the tent, tarp and a bit of gear. I also have to see how current carpets do. They are from two previous tents so will they fit ok? It will be a riot of mismatching carpet I think.

Looking forward to seeing your set-up Ewen C. There are very few photos of the inside of the Alaska around.

I am awaiting delivery of my Alaska and have the Obelink tarp which we want to use for our kitchen area - so I'm hoping for some inspiration (what I mean is, something I can try and copy haha).

I am thinking of having the tarp as an extension of the porch, extending out. The tarp is a 20 footer so will see how it goes. It will be interesting how long it takes us to put it up in the field, so to speak. We have only had one try out, without the tarp and we unclipped the guylines again.
I have split the tent up. Main is in the original bag. Inner lives in a dry bag within a canvas tool bag. Pegs, mallet etc has its own tool bag. The tarp has its own bag too. It is still a pain carrying the main part of the tent though.
We shall also be trying out the mini fridge and daughter gets to try out her Dutch army bag and new air 70 bed base. I will get to try out the lava rock gas barbie. The site has a very good restaurant so will have to book that.
