Im really wanting to start camping this year and i'm about to purchase my tent, The Question is this, im thinking of buying a 4metre Bell Tent because it has space for chairs and....well im going to be honest i glamped last year and thought i could do it myself in my own taste at different locations, (i like comfort) be cheaper than what you have to pay for proper glamping, any way i digress!!, would a 4m tent be considered too big for one person and looked upon unfavourably by the campsite, i dont want to upset people, and if it would, what sort of tent would be the right size. i dont want piddly little thing with no room? any help would be appreciated.. Thanks Glen

Someone in a thread about single lady campers suggested having 2 chairs outside the tent to give the impression to passing campers that you are not alone. The 2nd chair may be useful for visitors.
The bigger your tent the colder it will be at 4am when you wake up shivering and can't get back to sleep, so if you intent to camp in the spring and autumn as well as the height of summer choose the smaller model.

Don't worry about the size of your tent. I camp solo with an Obelink Alaska Pyramid, which is a very generous 4 berth. Has plenty of room inside even with the Inner Tent. Alaska / Eldorado

No matter what you choose, someone is going to have an opinion about it. If you can fit it in your car and pitch it by yourself don't worry about what others think or say. It's your tent and your holiday. Enjoy it.
We have a 6th berth tent for two and a dog, nobody comments. but sometimes when passing they do a double take at our bed with the pillows, duvet on and valance sheet its the same size as our bed at home.
We both need height getting out of bed and it's lovely to sit on and put shoes and socks on with loads of storage underneath.
So you just do what you like and no doubt you will pick up ideas as you go along from us lot.
Anyway good luck and enjoy and welcome to the madhouse of camping
i took my Karsten 300 pod and a friend took his 4m bell tent camping.
the bell tent whilst easy to put up soon showed that even for 1 person, wasnt particularly spacious by time he set up his double bed, somewhere to sit and a spot to cook in.
in fact, he found that he didnt like the not being able to see out unless the small front door was open and felt very cooped up and closed in on the 1 rainy day.
he now wants a tent similar to my Bear Lake 4 which has a bedroom to sleep in, a bedroom to use for bags / dumping things not immediatley needed inc the tent bag, mallet, peg bag etc, and a separate living space to sit in with windows etc and a canopy to cook under.
so id say its absolutely Not too big at all for 1 person, for a weekend tent / few nights its ideal, but i wouldnt want to be in such a confined space for a long time. ideal though for just sleeping and making a bite to eat before going outside.

Have a look at the Obelink Eldorado as an alternative?
Cotton canvas, like a bell
More standing room: flat front wall
No stooping to get in
More flexible:You can sit inside with the door closed and still see out (windows) or have the doors open and pegged back, like a covered outdoor area.
Comes with an inner bedroom tent as standard - warmer.
Cheaper
Still easy for one person to put up
BUT
Although the bedroom compartment has a fully sewn in groundsheet, the living area ground sheet is not SIG.
I used to hanker after a bell, but in the end decided on the Eldorado.
4m bell tent sounds great as long as you're not backpacking!!
I have one for two of us, and I think it would be great for one, touring.
Look at some of the less mainstream ones, Northstar, Karma, Dusky Deer, Pukka, and my choice, a Blacks of Greenock Solace...............?

Hi, don't worry about what others think, no site owners are going to blink an eye at a 4m bell.
Rather, you should just think about whether you can handle the weight on your own, and how much gear you intend to take with you.
I have a 3m bell tent for solo camping. It's 10kg in weight as it is polycotton. It's is compact and I take enough stuff to be comfy but I am a camper not a glamper, so I keep my needs to the practical. I have a triangle shade set up outside the door for the cooker and me muddy boots. Inside, I have a SIM bed, suitcase, box of kitchen stuff and a loo. I have sometimes thought of upgrading to a 4m bell, but it would be more than twice the weight, take up more storage and be colder at night unless I also got a bedroom inner. So on balance I love my cosy little solo 3m bell. But this is just my own preference. [/IMG] [/IMG]
