Hi all,
New to the forum. Looking for some information.
I have purchased a Medi Cambridge canvas tent, it seems very old. Stored in hemp sacks. It has fabric, metal zips.
Not had a chance to put it up yet. Have had a quick look the canvas seem good. It is blue and orange in colour.
Does any one know if these are any good?
Thanks

Headquarters and General ceased trading in the late 1970s. I believe they started out selling ex army surplus after the war. My father bought a tent from them in the early 1960s. It was green and yellow. I would think yours would be a 1970s tent as blue and orange were very popular tent colours at that time.

I bought an H&Q tent sometime around 1969/1970, also in the blue and orange. I used it for at least a month each Summer. It went to my brother when I left England in the mid 70s and he used it right up till the mid 90s. Stood up to some pretty nasty weather though I believe he had to start waterproofing it sometime in the 80s.

Thanks for the info,
This tent only used a couple of times then stored in a loft until now.
The poles are mint the plastic windows clear. Colour still vivid. Just seems to need a good airing. Fingers crossed

It will probably leak like a sieve first time it gets wet as it's been stored for such a long time. Give it a good wetting with the hose or put it up in the garden when it's going to rain and let it dry, hopefully next time it gets wet it won't let any water in.

Don't be tempted to re-proof it before you've given it a couple of decent soakings! Chances are it will become watertight again all by itself.

Hi thanks for the advise. Finally mahnaged to find some time to look at it.
Not sure this will be usable it's really smelling ripe. I have binned the hemp sacks. I have tried to wash the tent inner today. In a tub of fairy non bio and set it up and rinsed off with a hose down. Going to leave it up out side for the time being to dry and air.
The canvas also has a strong smell. Will add some pics of things so far
