So i'm having a rethink after posting about lighter tents: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=32&topicID=349715&ThreadPage=1

I've previously had trailer tents, and loved the size, storage and flexibility. The problem with most is that you need to use the awning to get the full benefits, including using the kitchen, but now being a single parent, the awnings are impossible to put up alone, or with the kids.

So, i'm thinking a pram hood, or inflatable awning trailer tent (do they even exist ?), or maybe a folding camper, with an attachable inflatable awning.

What options do I have ?. There must be other people here who needed something to being able to put up a tent/trailer tent/folding camper on their own, to accommodate a family ?

As ever, i'd love advice from this forum because you people have all the knowledge !.

Oh, budget is probably around £1000 - £1200 for the right thing.

I'm probably missing the point, but what about a bell tent? 1 pole, loads of space, no trailer and half the cost??

I think you have more options than you think.
But it's your budget that may be a bit short, especially for good quality folding camper. However, you could go for something like a Pennine Countryman type folding camper. Very easy to use especially with gas-assisted struts and everything is housed inside the main cabin. If you could find a nice second-hand example where the owner has modified the awning zip to accommodate an inflatable awning you are sorted. Another good option you could go for is a Sunncamp airvolution 300 trailer tent, they have blown up 3m awnings with the standard trailer cabin for sleeping in. Think of a sunncamp 350SE but with a newer blow-up awning and no big heavy kitchen on the back. Very easy to use, tow etc.
I think you should also consider looking at the Raclet Solena TT. No blow-up awning but with extra side awning annex and sun canopy, for a small lightweight unit they really max out the footprint.

Best user-friendly pram hood will prob be something like a camplet type trailer tent very easy to use and tow. There are other TT you could look at that are smaller and easy to use but not with the blow-up awning you want combi camp is another great easy to use range for another example.

Personally, I would increase the budget, if possible, and go for a Pennine Countryman / fiesta type from 2010 onwards and you never need anything again ;-)

For that sort of money you could get an older Dandy which will still have years of life left in it.

The smaller rear entry ones can be put up single handed but the large 6 or Destiny 6 berth models need 2.

This will give you an idea of what they are like but for your money you will need to buy privately.

This shows a new designer being put up.

Sorry to hi-jack the post but I have a disability and am finding putting up a trailer tent very difficult now even though there are 2 of us.

I am wondering whether to go folding camper or back to a good old tent (we use my sisters 4 man tent for a small festival we go to once a year and this seems so much easier to put up and the kids can help too!)

Any advise as my budget is around the same £1000-£1200

TIA

A folding camper is erected in much the same way as a trailer tent so I don't think it would make much difference to your set up problems. Perhaps an airbeam tent would be easier for you.

Airbeam with an electric pump is good, much easier, although you still need to peg out

Folding campers normally have no pegging out when erecting the main part of the cabin, which can make it much quicker.

What about something like a old trigano randger. And have a zip fitted for a inflatable awning?

Folding campers have the gas struts and do help a lot.
