So after my thread asking questions around wild camping, I thought I'd do a post holiday thread detailing what we did and where we went. Maybe it'll help someone else who's looking to something similar.
First off, we had a great time! We went to Dorset, Devon and Cornwall...I drove for 919 miles! We were away for 7 nights, we camped for 4 of those and managed to blag B&B's for the other 3 as key workers...we are key workers (NHS) but obviously we weren't working down there.
All three B&B's knew we weren't working down there, they didn't say as much though and they didn't seem to care. Just happy to have paying guests. Can I just say, Ivy House B&B in St Austell was amazing, 5* service and the power shower was a welcome relief!
Ok, so day 1 was a B&B, Fair Oak House at Exeter airport
Day 2 was the first wild camping experience. After a day of disappointment chasing waterfalls around Dartmoor, Whitelady Waterfall and Canonteign Waterfall...they were both closed to the public. We found our first camp spot...
We were driving past Four Winds Car Park in Dartmoor when we saw a tent pitched in there. It was an open car park, with a walled enclosure just off it. In our excitement, we drove straight in, pitched our tent and had a beer or two and revelled in our first success! Not realising we were ignoring all the rules about wild camping in Dartmoor i.e. 100 metres from a road and not in site of a dwelling. We were around 20 meters from the road, and there was a house in sight. However, no-one approached us and of course we left no evidence of us being there.
The morning sun was nice...

We found a reasonable site just outside of Looe, but it was on a slight slope and the GF wasn't comfortable with it, the view was amazing. So we drove on and found a car park we could park overnight in, these were next to some fields with high(ish) hedges. This was in Polruan. The field was sheltered from view of houses if we pitched close to the hedge and had a lovely view of the sea.
It was around 7-8pm I think when we got there, so pitched up, just the one beer and another good nights camp.
It rained reasonably heavy in the night and continued into the morning. We had to pack away the tent in the rain and all our stuff got soaked...the joys of camping I guess!! I forgot to mention this was our first time camping
I'm sure you experienced campers wouldn't be halted by this, but we did decided we needed a B&B for the next evening, so we could dry the tent in the room.
Day 4 we stayed at Ivy House B&B in St Austell. It meant we went back on ourselves by around an hour but the place was so good, the breakfast was tasty, the power shower amazing and the tent got dry...it was worth the journey!

After a busy day getting to Porthcurno beach, Lands End (with the signs removed from the post ) and fish and chips in St Ives to name a few we headed up the north coast of Cornwall and found a small gravel car park just off the road in the Godrevy Heritage Coast. No Parking signs, so we figured we could park over night.
A trail leading off the car park towards the cliff tops, led us campsite number 3. We got there just before Sunset and I'll just let the pictures do the talking, and they don't do it enough justice!...

Day 6 we headed further up the north coast, visiting beaches, Padstow and Port Isaac to name a few.
By the end of the day we were exhausted and just could not find somewhere we were comfortable with wild camping. I passed a sign advertising a local farm, camping, caravans ETC. I knew it would be closed, but chanced my luck and drove in and looked for the farmer. Luckily he was driving around on a quad bike and saw us and came over. I explained we were exhausted and were seeking permission to pitch a tent, they were closed but he didn't mind at all and turned on the hot water to the campsite showers for us and we were able to pitch up and relax.
We knew we were going to Longleat Safari park on the last day so opted for a B&B on our last night, with a bit of luck it was also an inn, so we were able to get a few pints from the bar...very tasty!!
