First of all, I want to thank you all for your fantastic advice regarding our first camping trip a few weeks ago. Invaluable - especially loading the tent last. We were set up within half an hour like seasoned pros. We loved it and have booked our second camp, end of June on a quieter site in the Peaks. We've even looked at upgrading the tent and booking two weeks in France next year

How do you keep your tent carpet in place? Ours was moving a lot and lifting at the edges. It's the eurohike Rydal 500 with the medium universal carpet. Any advice appreciated

As others say - 'junk' - lots of 'junk'! Well, bags, tote boxes, table chairs etc. to be more accurate. Even with a medium sized dog scampering around on it, it didn't move generally, only the corner by the door with no 'junk' which rucked a little with comings and goings, but the doormat (a metre square offcut of cord type carpet) helped there.

It's so irresponsible of you all to suggest buying more stuff! We started camping as we were looking to save for a house so skipping 'big holidays' for a few years and now - we are picking up a second hand 8 berth Vango, 2x camping cupboards and have just taken delivery of a huge amazon delivery of lights ,tent pegs and other assorted tenting things. Oh well - if that's what I need to do to keep the carpet down

Then of course, there is the kitchen annex to consider, one of those large event shelters, complete with optional walls of course, don't want all the electric kitchen equipment (toaster, electric griddle, microwave, electric kettle, mini oven etc.) getting wet do we!

I find that a small amount of carpet movement is actually quite useful. A small lift just inside the door(like a little archway) normally directs me towards the dedicated sleeping area of my tent after one of those "camping barbeques". Top Tip--keep your portable toilet well to the left or right side of the tent. and dont forget to leave the bedroom unzipped for a more comfortable landing.I blame it on "all that fresh air"---makes you tired.
